HEY ALL! quick question(yes i checked the search engine) can i or should i dunk a coir cake prior to putting into FC? 2 1/2 pint of PE(1st time with PE) on WBSF/verm/gyspum spawned to same ratio of coir... just not sure if the dunk will help, since its just like a giant cake or somewhat defeat the purpose...

Bulk substrates should not need to be misted before the first flush.
The moisture content of the substrate should easily be enough to sustain a nice first flush.
After each flush it can be dunked for an hour and put back into fruiting.

made a regular cake then spawned it to 100% coir in a larger jar thus making a larger cake.

That's called spawning to a bulk substrate, not making a larger cake.

Im in the process of using bags to make cakes out of various subs. Ill use grainspawn to inoculate the bag, and let colonize into a cake. I was under the impression that i should treat these just like pf cakes once fully colonized. Dunk and roll etc.... I was thinking the same thing for the OP.
Ideally I want to grow straw cakes in ziplocks, but right now im just using mycobags.

There is a difference between a BRF cake and Bulk substrates though.
BRF cakes can get dunked for 24hrs, where as bulk substrates should only be dunked for an hour or 2 or they can get water logged.
