I'm going to be the lead actor in a short movie (about 20-30 min), I have the script and everything. It starts filming this week. The problem is I've never acted before!!! I have confidence that I can do it tho.
Anyone have any advice?

congrats dude!! u gettin some cash?
stay very calm and collected, and pay attention to your character's mind. Don't forget eye-contact - its like a game with the other actors ;P

Thats really cool!! Ive acted in junior high and in my high school years as well.. i really miss that.. if its your 1st time, i can offer you that: 1st of all, read your script over and over again, so you'll begin to remember it by heart. while reading it, try to figure out many details u can about your character, and see if u, as a person, are close in one way or another to the character. try to find incidents in your life in which uve reacted like that character of yours, and then, try to reconstruct the emotions uve felt and so on.. this way, your acting will look more natural because it really came from you as a person, and not from you trying to act someone you're not... hope u get da differences..
good luck man!

Loriii's advice is very sound, Anthony Hopkins said the same thing in an interview. On the dvd Hearts In Atlantis there is bonus material which includes Hopkins talking at length about the art of acting, highly recommended. The more natural you are, just being yourself, the better, and KNOW YOUR LINES, he was very adamant about that.
Knock 'em dead, and congratulations!

Thanks for the advice guys, it helped.
We filmed the first part of the movie today, it was alot of fun. I liked doing multiple takes, so I could experiment with different styles etc. Did one take almost 10 times, I was flipping a switch, lol, seemed simple enough but something different always went wrong. We got it right in the end. there was even a cute girl who got me a drink.
watching myself on film was really wierd

It was cool, I wasnt really nervous but I was anxious. I know the director well (thats why I am in the movie), and he's just starting out, but we communicated really well, and we discussed my character, like: is he a smoker? what kind of shoes would he wear? is he neat or tidy? plus i brought my own traits to the character, but after watching the film, i realized i need to be more physical. Shooting the fun parts next week! Cant wait

Congratulations man! I'm a director myself (loosely put, I'm a 19yo kid who enjoys making movies looking to break into Hollywood real soon ) and it's always good to see people helping out the indy community. There's been some good advice so far, basically to know your character inside and out. Think of things like how would 'Jim' do at a job interview, or if your character has siblings, past traumatic events that helped shape who he is today. Once you stop trying to pretend you're in a scene and actually feel that you're living out the scene, you have it. Congrats again!
