Morning.  Sorry for bothering but I have an issue.  Last night I fell asleep while pasteurizing 18 gallons of horse manure 15 minutes before the timer was supposed to go off.  When I awoke the temperature of the manure had not climbed past 140F but had been pasteurizing for an extra hour and a half.  Do you think the extra pasteurization time caused the death of too many beneficial microbes due to being exposed to the heat for too long, or do you think it'll be alright?

If it was only 140 degrees F it should be fine, usually when you allow the substrate to cool down it stays near the temperatures you describe. If it had got over 160 degrees F, you might be pressing your luck.

If it were me I would try a small sample before ruining a bunch of spawn.

Have you ever pasteurized your substrate materials for longer than an hour and a half and then used them with success?  Yeah, the fact that the core temp was kept at 140F and the water temp at 150F is kind of the hope I'm clinging to too.

I don't see much of a point in "trying" a small batch out first before spawning.  By the time I knew if the materials were acceptable the initial pasteurization will have wore off.  By that point I'd just end up laying the materials back out in the sun, re-hydrate them, and then re-pasteurize anyway.  Which is what I'm leaning towards doing with this possibly over cooked manure.  Thanks for your input though.
