Is this mycelium?
    #17325679 - 12/03/12 09:30 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

I just saw this when I misted and fanned this morning and was not sure if it was mycelium.  I doesn't look like any other mycelium I have seen in my limited experience.

If it's not I want to get it out of my FC and into the ground outside soon.

Thanks for looking!

Looks like fluffy cube myc to me, but if it spreads fast, it may be trich.

Thanks FH.  I should keep an eye on it today and see how fast it grows then.  I figured I'd need to do that.  If I see it spreading fast, out into the garden it goes.

Looks a lot like the 24 cakes I just tossed.

Why did I think Trich was green?  This is white.  Not arguing, just want to be certain before I pitch it.  On the other hand, maybe I should take it outside to my garden.  What the heck, I have plenty of other cakes going now.  The garden thing just ain't happening so it will be a throwaway most likely even there.

Thanks for looking Smurfie!!

Trick starts out white then sporilates green. Research it and it will be self explanatory.

Bury it in your garden.

Thank you one and all.  It hasn't grown in this past few hours but after reading up on trich a little further and with the link from creekfreek stating it can grow over mushrooms [it has definitely done this on one of my caps] it is going outside.

Thing is, while taking it out to inspect it, first I had it on my kitchen counter to admire it, then on to my kitchen table to photograph it, then when placing it back in my FC I managed to spill some of the water in it's little tray over several cakes.  What a spaz!

Do I need to worry about spreading it this way?  From what I have read it turns green once it begins sporulating so I am hoping I'm okay since it's still white.

Thanks!!

Nothing really to do except clean the FC with soapy water after your grow is complete.
Contam spores are everywhere in the air around you.
No need to fret about it.
Your colonized cakes are resistant to contam- they're already colonized

Thanks Frank!  All looks good in my FC this a.m. and great news.  When I was placing that cake in my outdoor garden I saw a little mushroom popping out of the ground where I had planted other spent cakes!  I wasn't expecting anything so this was a great surprise.

WOW
I thought trich had a ever so slight gray color when compared to healthy myc.

Learn something new everyday!

Starting to look like this microscope will get used more than expected, at least till I learn the signs  of contamination a little better.

Trich is crazy white. It's truly a formidable foe to hold at bay.

I thought it might be fluffy mycelium but went with the opinion of other, more experienced folks here so that baby is in the garden.
