Mushroom Potency Question, Isolating Strain
    #17325022 - 12/03/12 05:05 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Ok so I have been growing for about 4 months now, Only BRF teq tho until just recently moving to bulk monotub wbs teq.

At first everything was fine.. took 3-4 grams a few times had a wonderful time, but then a buddy of mine and I took some and noticed nothing, I was in disbelief and took a 8th another few times and noticed little to nothing of effect. After doing proper homework on that specific subject I obviously learned that MS is just totally a genetic lottery..

I never really cared much to go into making a LC until now, I figured I'd just get around to it eventually, but I'm sick of growing bunk mushrooms, and would like to get making an LC, but as for picking which mushroom to collect a print from.. how would I know/choose? Obviously if I eat it I can't collect a print from it to make an LC, but I want the most potent one possible to make an isolated strain from, what is my best process here.. who can shed some light.

You're still gonna have that genetic lottery even with LCs...

You need to isolate monocultures on agar, fruit each one out and test it if you want a potent strain.

Mushroom Cloning

Strain Isolation

If you are having issues with potency you might just want to either eat more or try a different species (not trying to be rude). Some people don't like the taste of active mushrooms so they tend to not want to eat more, while others get an upset stomach or other unwanted side effects.

If I were you, I would try a different species before trying to isolate a potent strain. Since you have had success with P. Cubensis, perhaps you could try Panaeolus Cyanescens, they take a little more work to cultivate, but much easier than isolating genetic characteristics between P. Cubensis strains.

But he already have a good experience with that one, eating the "standard" dose for a cube, so it is more a variation within that strain most likely.

On the other hand, I agree with you that he should try a different strain with a higher potency as the default, such a PE. A low potency PE it still stronger than a high potency regular cube.  The pans certainly are a higher default content as well.

And a couple of PE runs via clones is probably all he needs to settle down into a high potent myc base.
