I dated a girl for a while that sometimes had bad breath. It wasn't terrible but noticeable. I liked kissing her enough that it didn't bother me. Plus, I am sure that I had bad breath from time to time.
Sometimes people's breath stinks. So what?

It's not really her breath, like I said, it's something else and kind of REALLY smells, Maybe tonsil stones or something.
Guy, I KNOW people are human, humans are gross, we shit and fart and piss and stink, yeah, I know. I'm not expecting someone with a perfect pink asshole and porcelin teeth with evergreen breath always.

flossing is so boss.
the shit you get out from between your teeth is nasty and definitely a main cause of foul breath in a lot of people. not flossing can cause serious tooth issues and also lead to gum issues as well as throat issues from having far too much bacteria in your mouth.
flossing is far far more important than brushing but both should be done regularly.
perhaps she has gastrointestinal problems though? it could not be her throat or mouth at all but rather her gut.

Tonsil stones are pretty nasty but they are totally manageable. Idk. She probably doesn't realize she has a breath problem. If you said something she would probably do everything she can to eliminate it...

Yeah that's the thing, I want to approach it in the best way, and not make her feel embarrassed or anything

Acidic Sloth has the right answer
Dental floss is a must and is often underrated
Most of the biofilms that grow between your teeths wont be removed by brushing and can cause a foul odor after a few days.
THe worst is when the bacterias start to multipy between your teeths and your gingivas. Its an odor that i cant support...
im a dental freak though...

No I get that, and I try to floss regularly. How do I bring it up? I actually think her mom nags her about dental stuff, so she's annoyed by it but yeah.
I'm just going to bring it up in the same way I did brushing. "I started flossing more regularly, and my breath is way better! My mouth is a lot cleaner....."

AS probably has basically the right answer but it's actually this:
"perhaps she has gastrointestinal problems though? it could not be her throat or mouth at all but rather her gut. "
Do you really think tiny little pieces of food between your teeth are gonna create the death breath that a lot of people seem to have? The body is a giant mixed bacteria colony. If your intestinal flora is out of whack it will translate to every tissue in your body. Further, the bacteria in your mouth are specific to you based on lots of factors like genetics, what you picked up from your mom's birth canal(literally true) your environment and your diet. Anyone with chronic bad breath probably has it because of this, not dental hygiene. If you have the right flora you will practically never have bad breath. Maybe if you let plaque film build up on your teeth for days it'll be a bit shitty but the source is deeper than food stuck between your teeth.
Has she taken antibiotics a lot or recently? Have her eat some good yogurt daily for a few months. Give her some kimchi.

She needs to floss very well. Food rots between your teeth. It is very bad for your health for this bacteria to be forming.

Yeah, I dont actually think its related to oral hygiene, and I think it's tonsil stones, throat mucous, or gastro-intestinal issues.

I used to get those little white balls in my tonsils. I bought a water pick to blast them out of there. I haven't seen them in a while...

Yes the tonsils excrete that white stuff you see when you have strep. It does this even when healthy because of toxins in the blood stream being expunged by the glandular system. This substance does smell and can cause bad breath.
Hopefully ur situation is resolved by now..but if not you may want to be open. Honesty is good sometimes and she may want you to feel comfortable and happy over a little embarrassment on her part.
