    #17322195 - 12/02/12 05:58 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Out of impulse, I knocked up 11 jars of brf with cubensis spores and they all are fully colonized and some fruited in vitro and I dont have any money for a sgfc or perlite or anything. The yeilds havent been to great but I think its the strain (Malabar) :frown:.. any cheap ways to increase humidity or yeild.. thanks.. ill post pics later

Build a SGFC...it costs like $8 for a tub and maybe $20 in perlite.

The small yields are due to the fact that you are not providing the proper conditions.

$20 for perlite for one tub?  Where are you buying it from?

Eyeballing them is fine, just as long as you have a good eye...read the page and watch the video first.

If a SGFC is built properly, it will have the perfect RH for cubes. No hygrometer needed.

Thanks, ruler and sharpie is worth it then. I read misting the sides only and also glisten actual cake but not pins once pinning starts. Which one is true? Or both is true? Thanks.. is 6-10 layers of perlite anymore beneficial than the recommended 3-5 layers?

Don't mist the sides of your tub, they will not grow.

Mist the cakes directly with a fine mist, then fan out the chamber to make room for evaporation.

Main pinning triggers are full colonization, FAE and Evaporation off of the substrate.

Light is a secondary pinning trigger. For tropical species temperature is not a pinning factor.

Spent means they've run out of nutrients and will no longer fruit? I thought it meant it has pinned at some point.. like its spent...not cashed..lol.. im sure I can get more flushes out of all of them.

One more question for now.. it says 3-5 days from pin to mature but what it after 3 days its grown but still small, could cakes fruit shrooms that take 1 week to grow fully or do all shrooms stop growing regardless of size like on day 5?

Don't bump your own threads if it's been less than 24 hours.

Fruits take any number of days to grow.  Just pick them as soon as the veil starts to tear.

No reason contam risk should be any higher.

Anecdotally, optimal yields are achieved 2-3 months after inoculation but acceptable yields may be achieved after 8 weeks, IIRC.

Yes even if rh is below 30%, just need to wet your perlite every 5-7 days cause it drys out faster.

I can only find the small miracle grow bags of perlite around here, which means it gets expensive (8 dollars for my tub and 20 for my perlite is actually pretty much exactly what I spent). I shoulda ordered it like the Verm and flour and stuff since I can't really get any of this shit in my town, but I figured Home Depot or something would have what I need. :frown:

If you get the kind with the twist nozzle, you can adjust it down to a mist.
