Paper towel pins
    #17321616 - 12/02/12 04:01 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Hello all. I recently spawned 1:2 wbs>compost in a 3 gallon bucket 4" sub depth. I forgot to leave some sub to cover the top with a layer and so instead i got a clean paper towel and laid it on top of the sub. I did this because i didn't want any exposed grain getting hit by airbornes.

It has been 9 days and i took and peek which revealed large knots forming under the damp paper towel. Will it be ok if i just leave the paper towel or should i try to remove it?

When u spawn a bulk substrate its highly unlikely that exposed grains will contam unless they were not 100% colonized to begin with.

A lot of people do not cover their exposed grains with success.

I didn't really want to stick my dirty hands in there to check if it was stuck so i have decided to leave it. I'm sure healthy pins will easily bust though it.

Thanks for the tip about exposed grains.
