more worrying look at this jar
    #17320788 - 12/02/12 01:37 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

okay i posted a picture of a jar last week about a jar which looked like the mycelium had broken past the verm barrier.

it has looked about 100% colonized for about 4-5 days now and it looked like it had grown even more above the barrier. so i thought i would take a look.

not a clear picture as normal but you get the idea. completely covered and it looks all fluffy and wet..

what do i do? birth it? what do i do with all the fluff? might it be mould? it is veryyy white though

That shit on top doesn't look like
any mycelium I've ever seen...

Take a few more pictures if possible.
Knowing it was there, I sure wouldn't
of opened it indoors.

Looks like soapy water. Try finding a friend with a camera that is not from the mid 90's.

It still looks like soap bubbles to me.
I do see some rhizomorphic growth on some edges so based on that I am 75% sure you are good. 25% could be some really white supper strain of cobweb that just now came into existence.

No I would leave it as is. When you remove it from the jar it should smell earthy and fungusy if it smells bad at all avoid inhalation and toss it. But it seems to just be really thick mycelium or something possibly layered from over colonization. So dunk it roll it and birth it spray it. FAE it. Harvest it. Eat it.

Compare your rhizomorphic growth to this. If it looks similar to this you are good.

Looks like myc to me.

Birth that sucker,  rinse it off under the faucet.

If the fluffy stuff on top stays put,  fine.  If it washes off,  fine too.

Just keep an eye on it.

i birthed it. it just fell off the top. so.. binned the fluff and put the rest of the colonized cake in the water . birthed another jar too. it looks VERY nice.

one question. this cake. it has looked like this for 2 weeks now. and has been in the jar for 5 weeks.
what do i do with it? :S. it hasnt grown and has completely stopped.

can i birth it and get rid of the non colonized?

No, I'd toss them. Get the right jars next time and you'll have better luck. It could also be contaminated with bacteria you can't see, have a sniff before you throw them away.

haha if these are oyster i will be annoyed. but fun process anyway.

and i dont think it was wet. maybe it got a little.

and there are plenty of people that get good grows from this size jar. it is hard in the Uk to get the right size. and they myc has gone all the way to the bottom of the jar. just maybe invisible mould
