Notes from a first time shroom grower 1

Started my first grow in September. Had been ruminating on the idea for a while. Had already started a successful cannabis grow and wanted to expand into mushrooms.
Got a psiloybe cubensis strain from Costa Rica.
The first hiccup was the pressure cooker. The thing broke before I even used it. It was spitting steam everywhere and looked like it was going to explode. The vermiculite also was soaked with too much water.
In spite of all that the first two jars colonized without a hitch. I thought the rest were a lost cause. Fast forward to November and they are sprouting white feathery blooms like nothing had ever happened.
Was skeptical of dunking, the mycelium cakes had been waterlogged when I started them and I thought adding more water would just drown them. Nevertheless, after seeing a few pictures I decided to give it a try. The post dunk flushes were twice as big as the non dunk flushes. Became a believer in dunking.
Tried an eighth and only got a light trip with slight body affect and mild visual distortion. Upped to five grams and got a regular old trip replete with colors and visuals and patterns and everything with the euphoria and all of it.
Lessons learned? The Costa Rican strain is not that strong but all you have to do is grow a little bit more and that solves the problem. Will probably switch to a different strain that is more potent for next time. Ideally, something that will get you trip hard at 2 grams or less. P. Cyanescens maybe?
Had an elaborate schematic made out for a drying chamber. Turns out, my air conditioner does the job just fine. Lay them out in front of the a/c fan for about twelve hours and they are crisp as bacon.
Who knows. In any case, these cakes are flushing and blushing away. But they will not last much longer. Maybe double the number of cakes for next time and exercise a little bit more patience.
Was it worth it? I wouldn't trade it for anything else.
Thanks Shroomery. It wouldn't have been possible without you guys!

You seem to not understand what a strain is. P. Cubensis and P. Cyanescens are different species, from the same genus. A strain would be costa rican cubes vs. penis envy cubes. Both are still cubes.

Good work!
Im working on my first grow too and have learned so much from the shroomery. When I go through the motions of mycology its like ive done it 1000 times before, like it was second nature, and I had never done any of this stuff before in my life!
I wouldnt get too excited about the prospect of cultivating cyans unless you plan on doing an outdoor grow. You could seed some patches out in the wild and return to them in the fall/winter. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=255&Number=13477434&fpart=&PHPSESSID= http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=255&Number=15818889&fpart=&PHPSESSID= <--- Super amazing thread on cyan cultivation. This guy is remarkable.
Now its time for you to get to work on some monotubs!
