To be completely safe, yes. That is the correct answer. PC it properly to eliminate any possible contams that may be residing it it. Remember verm is usually not sealed air tight and is sold in
nursery. Therefore it is exposed to a large amount of nasty "floaters". You may also take into consideration that (given your area) your AC can be you worst enemy and exposing the verm for even a few seconds (to the AC'd air) can contam it....

AHH since when is the AC a bad thing......what house doesn't have AC when they sterilize/innoculate....seems like an unavoidable situation

Roll in verm every time you dunk, or pour the verm over the cake dry and spray it wet. The cake should be fully colonized so sterlizing the verm isn? t needed but better safe then sorry. This is what happens when you do this.
