theres something in peanuts that will at some point just stall the growth completely.
not sure what it is, but i've done all my preps the same and all the ones with peanuts just never really completed.

I just had a successful wbs bulk, leaving the large walnuts in. (Although they didn't colonize, they surely didn't stall the jars.)

i'd consider a different variety of wbs. i've used it with sunflowers and cracked corn with good results but i've never heard of peanuts. feel like they would get to mushie and starchy after pcing, but hell you already soaked it. give it a  shot. see if your grains come out nice and separated or if there just one big starchy clump start over. try to stick to basic milo and millet mixes.

I did notice when i was rinsing the wbs it was very starchy, but i just rinsed until it ran clear. (I've no idea if wbs without the walnuts is just as starchy)

Yeah, I just happened to have this bag of WBS laying around for quite a while, figured I'd try it anyways. How will I know if it's good to inoculate after pressure cooking? If the jars happen to shake freely without any clumpy starchiness, they're probably okay to try? and if they don't shake very easily I will just start over with better WBS (so i don't waste any spores)?

And thanks Frank, I linked your WBS prep along with TL's WBS prep on my original post, I followed them both exactly to where I'm at now. I'll brinbg the soaking grains up to a simmer then dry and pressure cook this evening. worst case scenario, I'll buy better WBS tomorrow and try again. Oh well.

BTW, all this talk of rye... better off than WBS? pros/cons?

WBS con - inconsistent grain sizes, harder to get perfect moisture content
Rye pro - Same grain sizes, easy to get perfect moisture content

WBS pro - more inoculation points in bulk substrate
Rye con - less inoculation points in bulk substrate

WBS con - harder to break up when fully colonize due to more grains per cubic inch
Rye pro - easier to break up when fully colonized

jars are now colonizing, lets see what happens...

i was able to strain out most of the chunkier/nuttier/starchier seeds and grains and nuts from my WBS, but i didn't fill as many jars as i expected because of it. (only seven 1/2qt jars for 3.5qts spawn total). I thought they looked pretty good so once they dried I PC'd em for 2 hrs, shook em and left em overnight.

hopefully this is good enough!

this afternoon i gave them another good shake and knocked em all up with 10cc's distributed evenly of cambodian multi spore syringe. I did not shake them any more after inoculation. they are colonizing in my empty fruiting chamber exposed to ambient/indirect light. time to let them do their thang, hopefully i've done fine with avoiding contaminants, so we'll see about that...
