Rye Berries drying and shriveling up?..

I inoculated some jars about 2 weeks ago.
No sign of growth. The jars seemed perfect at first. The rye could be squished between the fingers. After steam drying they seemed the perfect dryness too. Loaded the jars and inoc'd the next day.
2 weeks on no signs of growth at all. The only thing happening is the seeds on the top of the jar have started drying out and shriveling up.
I'm using standard jars (any old jar, pasta sauce etc) with two holes punched in the top. (Fairly small, about the diameter of a chopstick)
Then micropore tape. Then a coffee filter placed over the top (just sitting, not banded)
What the fuck happened ffs? I am seriously never going to get a successful grow!

Follow a tried and true tek, you'll have success. Most likely culprit is micropore tape. Inappropriate filter material. Get a tyvek suit (dupont brand) or some SFDs. Or a thing of polyfill.

The culprit is more then likely not the Micropore tape but the size of the Gas Exchange hole... I use Ragu spaghetti sauce jars with ear plug inoculation ports, and 1/8 inch GE holes with micropore tape, and never have a problem.
There is a such thing as to much Gas Exchange.

Crappy pic's I know.. I'm lazy.

For real..? my holes are basically the same size as yours.
I'd say my two holes are about 1/6 diameter.

There's actually 2 layers of tape also.
How did you prepare your grains? Any chance for bad spores?

It was probably a bad syringe. I ordered from a non vendor (UK based) after reading a few good words about them here and there (legit ones)
I told the guy he sent me a dud syringe and he did actually send me another syringe but not the same strain.
I was just confused as to why the grains were drying.
Prep: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/12895332#12895332
but I didn't have gypsum. Didn't stick though. Like I said the rye berries seemed perfectly done when I did them.
I'm tempted to shoot a little bit of the new syringe into one of the jars and see if growth appears.
edit:
btw mine looked exactly like his grain at the end.

I would try to reknock them. Most people will say knew spawn when you can but I don't see the harm in trying it especially if you have the spare spores.

I'm wondering if maybe my pressure cooker is broken..? Maybe it's not sterilizing the jars properly :S?
I have no idea anymore lol.
My first grow colonized the jars (Pan cyan) but didn't fruit. Not suprised haha, I did so many things wrong prepping the bulk.

If your jars aren't sterilized properly, they will grow contaminants very quickly.

So it's definitely sterilized then.. There APPEARS to be no contaminants. Maybe I should take a pic for you guys..
It just looks exactly like you would imagine a shriveled rye berry to look like though. Only the very top layer of grain.
I've just soaked another batch of grain though. I'm not going to bother reinoculating.

New batch about to go in the pressure cooker. All looks good so far. Grain is el-dente. Slight condensation on inside of jars after I filled them with grain but I don't think it's anything abnormal.
One thing I've noticed different is that I've been leaving my jar lids slightly loose. As in.. I tighten the lid, then counter-turn it so it is not tight.
Where as the tek says to tighten the lids down.
I will keep them tightened down this time. I don't know how safe that is.. but I have GE holes in each jar so it should be fine.. I hope.
