I got 5 brf cakes that have been in the sgfc for 7 days. No pins, heck not even any knots. Plus they seem a little dry, like a hard layer on the outside. Any ideas on what I should do , and what I'm doing wrong? Rh stays around 84 temp around 78

Post a pic of your setup. I've also got cakes in my SGFC for one week today with nothing happening.

not enough info for a proper diagnosis. wait longer. make sure to mist often and make sure you have proper FAE.

I wouldn't dunk. I didn't see pins on mine until day 9. Give it until the 12 day mark.

post the pic, i've only done about 40 cakes but i had a wide range of times until seeing pins. about 10 days earliest and yesterday i noticed two white pins on my Albino A+ cake. these were put in the sgfc after 9 days consolidation ONE MONTH ago. hello!
i know it sucks staring/checking those things everyday. the only thing that helped for me, was starting new grow projects to take my mind off it, like cheese grading some cakes into a bulk substrate, and then actually buying a pc and starting on Grains. Take care

It sounds like you didn't dunk them to begin with prior to putting them in the SGFC? You must dunk them first. For 24 hours. Then roll in vermiculite.
Force them underwater by putting a weight on them. Then leave them there till tomorrow.
Things should soon be a lot better!

Patience...
The best way to judge if they need to be re-dunked. Is not only by surface texture , appearance. You would lift the cake gently, and judge the weight of what it was when you first birthed it. To what it is now. Cakes will become very light over time, it's pretty noticeable.
It's something that comes with experience.
Picture's would be a great help. If they appear dry then directly mist the cakes. And then Fan.
