Keep those terrarium temps down, man!

It's hot this summer, so I wanted to share something I've heard about. You can keep your terrarium temps down by sticking your humidifier in a bucket of ice. If you drill (or melt) a hole in the bottom of the bucket, with a vinyl hose running to a drip pan, you can easily refresh your ice as needed.

The cold water makes the air cool, so you'll have nice cool air refreshing your steamy cakes and casings.

Wouldnt making the air cooler than the outer air cause it to condensate on the outside, and not in?

Ah never mind. I needed to read the post a few more times before understanding what he meant. I was talking about making the air cooler inside the chamber, than the outside would cause it to condensate oppositely, like a cold drink. But by sticking the humididfier in cold water I can see how it'd work. Im just not familiar with techniques like this.

So you have to constantly add ice to that thing, and always empty the bucket? Rig it to an ice machine, that'd be badass. Have the water output go right to a drain.. sorta limits the placement of it though.. Somewhat sound idea.. just too lazy to add ice.

Why not just add ice directly to the cool mist? My friend has been doing that for a while and it works great on hotter days... and he actually uses a rotating set of ice packs, he has three, and one is always completely frozen if you do it right... no drip bucket, no worrying about having ice around...
