Fixing a n00b mistake with my first monotub?

When I first started using monotubs I made a noobie mistake with my first mini tub. I drilled my bottom fresh air/gas exchange holes 6 inches up instead of the standard 4 inch protocol. If I remember it right I thought that the substrate depth was supposed to be 4 inches deep and the holes were supposed be a bit above the substrate level. I don't know why I thought that
I held on to the tub because I have a habit of hoarding mycology tools and equipment. Now I have found a use for the old tub that has been sitting in my closet for awhile. I am about to begin a new Agaricus grow. I want to use 4 mini monos. I prefer minis because from my experience the mini tubs consolidate and grow so much faster than larger tubs do, and with 4 minis I can probably get as much (if not far beyond) the yield I can get from 1 large tub.
Like I said the tub has the bottom fresh air gas exchange holes drilled in 6 inches high, and this leaves another 6 inches to the top of the tub. Although it would be fairly cheap and easy to just buy a new tub, being the hoarder of mycology goodness that I am I want to use this tub. Do you think that I could simply cover/tape the holes at the 6 inch height and drill new holes at the 4 inch height and use the tub without problems? Or do you think I would be better off filling this particular tub with substrate all the way up to the higher holes? If I just fill the tub up to the 6 inch mark and go with that I am afraid that the remaining 6 inches wont leave enough room for the mushrooms to grow.
If you have actually read this ramble of a post thank you. Any and all input is appreciated.

Yeah I see no issue taping up the holes to cut new ones.. try duct tape over tyvek to make sure its waterproof. Maybe change every once in a while to keep fresh

What size are the tubs you referred to as "mini tubs"? They way you described them makes me picture they are at about 10 inches tall, which isnt my idea of "mini" xD
I was thinking of trying some shoebox sized containers that I can get at the local dollar store, but they might be too small for a "mini mono tub" setup.

I guess you are right Adrenalien it's not a mini tub so much as it is a smaller tub. I believe the typical mono tub is a tote somewhere around a 56qt tub. A tote that size needs about 16qts of combined substrate and spawn to bring it to the 4" mark. The smaller tubs that I am using are about half that size. They take 8qts of spawn/substrate to fill them to the 4" mark. They usually pop out about an ounce or two give or take depending on the strain and conditions. I've tried the shoe box sized totes before but it was a fail. I think the reason it failed was because I couldn't figure out a way to get the tub sealed up enough while it consolidated. I think it had too many leaks in it and a trich spore made itself at home. My shoe box tub never made it. I would imagine that if you got everything dialed in for proper fresh air and gas exchange a shoe box tote would consolidate really fast. If you get a tub like that going please send me a link to your grow log. I would love to follow along.

Ahh, thats too bad to hear your shoebox totes contaminated. I bet you could get it down if you tried again.
I was also considering doing a double tub setup with the small tubs too, but double tubs seem like more hassle than they are worth. Certainly one tub wouldnt be tall enough for shroomies to grow up in, two would probably barely do the trick. I guess you could also put the tubs in a terrarium (but that would defeat the whole purpose of it being a monotub... lol).
I havent personally tried a monotub setup yet, but if I ever get one going I will definitely keep you posted!
