First grow, grains kinda slow. Pics
    #17305472 - 11/29/12 08:22 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Hey guys, first grow here.  Knocked up some grains about a month ago, followed sterile procedure using a flow hood.  Shook up these jars at 30% a little over a week ago.  they've kinda gotten to this point and are going very slow, they are colonizing, just slowly.  I have 3 holes in my lid at or just under 3/16, soaked my grains for about 10 hrs before PCing for 90 mins.  It's usually about 68-70 degrees in my place.

Just wondering if there's anything some of you more experienced guys can maybe see that's causing them to colonize so slowly.  Or if maybe there's nothing wrong?  I don't know, just wanted some guys with experience to check these out and see if there's anything I should be aware of.  THANKS!

It could be one of many things; jars to dry, bacterial contam, slower strain of cube, bad genetics from MS. No matter what I would say that having jars on carpet around dog hair an crap is not a great place to have them. If you seriously have no other place for them, at least put some plexiglass or something down that you can at least keep relatively clean. I doubt that they were truly at 30% as your colonized grains would be better distributed throughout. Either that or you didn't shake them well enough. Also pics of the bottom of the jars would help and better lighting on photos would help. Honestly though a month is nothing. I would not get too paranoid unless I smell something bad, or see some nasty shit.

I am a noob here as well, but that's my 2 cents.

Word, I have a clean place for them.  I just put them there because it's the only place i could get halfway decent lighting.  Most of the bottoms are not yet colonized at all.  They may have been a little under 30%.  If so, they were pretty damn close.  I guess I'll have to wait and see.  Just wanted to know if anyone saw anything in the myc or grains that maybe I (being new to this) wouldn't notice.  Thanks for your response.  Rest assured, I keep my grains in the cleanest spot I can find in my place.  Although it isn't ideal, but I don't have a lot of room.

I'd give it another week or two then. If you don't see anymore growth at that time then you probably have a bacterial contam hiding in there. If you notice the grains looking greasy or some nasty fermenting smells, then it will be trash tek time.

Be sure to follow a good tek to a tee. Expect some issues your first few times. Hell, I'm still noobing along myself, and know what the paranoia is like. If this one fails, just try again. My best advice is, don't put all your eggs in one basket, and you'll always be able to try again

Cool, I have the myc stored so knocking them up again wouldn't be much of a bother. No grease or foul smells yet.  I'll just have to wait and see.

Not sure what you mean by this, but don't do anything to those jars. Start new ones. I'd start new ones regardless if those take 1+ months, that way you can have more on the way when your grow is done.

What I mean is I kept all the different isolations from this particular strain stored in the fridge until I decide which ones are my favorite to keep long term.  I might knock up a few more jars just incase, but I don't want to get in over my head.  Kinda taking it one step at a time right now.

i have your tempratures as well and same growing speed on my grain jars i i had to shake them if they are slowed at about %80 90 .. it recovers in few days and good to go very fast from there on .. but if you dont shake they colonize with no problem
little slow tho 67-69F
fruiting also slow at this temprature
but notice your top of the jars some grains didnt colonized as well so watch out for that
