Will this tyvek suit work for a grain lid?
    #17301492 - 11/29/12 06:04 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

I have access to this suit:

http://www.northernsafety.com/Product/4402/DuPont-Tyvek-Disposable-Lab-Coat-No-Pockets

Will this work for MYC projects specifically for a Grain in Quart Jar lid?

Any Links to a Grain to Quart Jar LID Tek?

Found One that has the tyvek and the band only. Doubtful about it since I think that would dry out my grains.

Thanks In Advance!

If you did quarter sized filters, that coat would last 1000 jars

If it says "DuPont Tyvek" it's good to go. If you're concerned, use two layers for your filter

If you have free access to this type of Tyvek suit then go for it, if you are paying for them I would suggest using a more economical source.

Tyvek is the name brand for a polyethylene-based material.  If it's actually tyvek, it's made by Dupont, and it's good.  However, there's many different manufacturers of the same type of material that are of lower quality.

Also, there are several different types of Dupont Tyvek, and only some are suitable for filters.  Painters suit tyvek is great.  House wrap is not.

Theres a surplus shop here that sells it for two dollars so Im good with the cost. Im not from the US though.

Saw a tek wherein they cut the tyvek in round pieces and put it on top of a 3/8" inch hole on top of the grain lids and glued it down with silicone.

If I do this do I still double up the tyvek?
Would that hole size be okay?

Any proven tyvek with injection port grain lid teks out there?

Thanks

Tyvek Envelopes > Polyfil > Tyvek Suits > Micropore Tape > SFD's

Atleast in my experience.

I've used all, and had pretty much the same results from the envelopes up to the suits. Tape worked great, and SFD's just own all.

In MY experience.

---

To answer your question, some people put the tyvek down and then the lid, some put the lid and then the tyvek. I prefer lid and then tyvek.

If the tyvek covers the lid would you inject thru the tyvek?

You would make a self-healing inoc port with RTV silicone. Then you could inoc through there and through the tyvek under it.

What I would do along those lines is do 4 or 5 smaller holes, and a circle of tyvek over the top. This way you can shake the jar and the tyvek won't get touched/wet.

What I actually do these days is very very tight polyfil through a hole in the lid, then a 'belt and braces' approach of putting a circle of tyvek siliconed over the whole lid once it's inoculated. This way I don't have to start peeling off old tyvek to change it every so many number of uses.
