From what I understand modern day Babylon is the area around Iraq. I think it is a reference to a historical(biblical) landmark. If anybody has any good links or references I too would like to know more, so please post 'em. Thanks

no no no, I mean the mythical Babylon... you hear about it in songs and poems and stuff. it's a metaphor for something.
anyway, I have an idea what it is, I just want to make sure.

You're probably referring to the concept from the Rastafarian religion. Here's what it means...
From http://www.rasta-man.co.uk/religion.htm:
"Babylon is the Rastafarian term for the white political power structure that has been holding the black race down for centuries. In the past, Rasta see that blacks were held down physically by the shackles of slavery. In the present, Rasta feel that blacks are still held down through poverty, illiteracy, inequality, and trickery by the white man. The effort of Rasta is to try to remind blacks of their heritage and have them stand up against this Babylon."

Of course it doesn't scare YOU, because you are all righteous and holy. I forgot. By the way, I think Maynard is the reincarnation of Buddha, and Tool has a lot of melody, and he has marked you for life for saying that (ever heard the bass parts? super-melodic. and Maynard himself happens to be quite the melodic singer).
What I am saying is that it is sort of scary that it was in the Bible, seeings how it is quite accurate in describing the United States. Then again, it would be quite accurate in describing the Roman Empire, also. Hmm, that was right around the time that that was written. I'm sure that's the definition of any empire, though. What else would hold the countries together? Love? Peace.

well, keep in mind that not only does the bible have scary sounding prophecy, so does every other religious text. It only goes to reason that this was the way things would end up... look at history.
we're finally here, and now we have to do it.

Strange you should mention that, the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force and the 1st Marine Division are now being based at CAMP BABYLON, Iraq.
Given the description of Babylon from Revelation, being on those 7 hills... there are only a few cities in the world that match that description... Rome being one of them. So, I stand by the interpretation of Babylon being Rome and the whore being the catholic church.

Wow, that passage is pretty intense.. especially the bit about the reapers. The voice of the heavens warned that any who worshipped the beast would receive the full wrath of G-d, and then the reapers killed enough people to to create a pool of human blood multiple feet high for two hundred miles.
Even taken metaphorically, that's enough to put the fear of G-d in a lot of people. It's been a while since I read through the Bible, but it's pretty easy to see how simple it is to convice a large group of people of anything, given the right words and images.
Two hundred miles, hot damn.

It sounds like the U.S.; however, I took his links he had to Revelations, and it barely said any of that. Unless he took it from other, un-Biblical sources, it is his own words. "8 And another angel, a second one, followed, saying, '(1) Fallen, fallen is (2) Babylon the great, she who has (3) made all the nations drink of the (4) wine of the passion of her immorality.'" None of the cross referenced even hinted at what he said. Of course, taking creative liberties to make it seem like a picture perfect example of the United States WOULD make us all want to convert to Christianity, now wouldn't it? He said that it doesn't scare him, of course not! Anyways,

I think it is Babylon. Christians who think this country is Zion are blind. Look at the massive globalization we have caused and all the greed we as a society have.

I'd say you are all way off... Babylohn is the place that Rastariens consider to be paradise on earth.. Eventually they would like to see all rasta children unite there.. It also believed to be the origination of rasta thinking.. It's easy to understand from some of thier qoutes like "So it was in the begining so shall it be in the end"..
