They shouldn't. If you leave them for too long they will begin to rot but that would take some time.
Also if your pins do fall off you can always reattach them and they should continue to grow.
If you cant reattach and your pins do fall off just save them in my experience they are more potent than larger mushrooms and if you have enough of them they make for a good time.

Well, your right, it will probably be a bitch to get the cakes out of the jar with a tapered mouth. I had wide-mouth pint jars that were a pain to get out. I blame that on the fact that I had about 3 or 4 shrooms growing in each one.
Mine never rotted, they grew inside for a week and a half before I finally birthed. You could see them bruise as they mashed their way along the jar. The biggest one was 6 inches when I birthed the cake.
Try to leave the pins on, they are more worth it when they grow bigger.

I've never seen an invitro rot, but I have seen them re-attach to the cake anywhere they are touching.

It would take alot longer than a week and a half for the mushrooms to rot pretty much you would be fine if you left the mushrooms for and entire flush even on the 2nd flush they probably wouldnt rot but why leave a mushroom if its already aborted right? Eventually a mushroom will start to turn black and get mushy.

You may want to use the search engine for this I have heard of using a toothpick to reattach I have just put the pin on top of the cake and it reattaches itself a bigger one may require a toothpick or something but honestly I just save my pins and make tea out of them when I have enough. EDIT: I have also read somewhere that you will have a higher sucsess rate at reattaching if you attach the nushroom in the same spot that it was growing but dont know if it is true.

Very interesting, I have not come across this yet.
I got a bad trich problem, so I harvested everything that wasn't contaminated, trashed the entire grow op, cleaned it and disinfected it with a few gallons of lysol, and then got distracted by other parts of my life. About 5-6 weeks later, I decided to restart, and found a bunch of jars that had been 50% colonized when I quit. Almost all of them had invitros of some size. Most of the bigger ones were fused to the cakes and rye. All of the cakes produced some massive fruits within a few days of fruiting them.

I have also noticed that invitro pins will attach themselves to a cake. Maybe because of not enough RH so the mycellium grows around the stems? IDK? Sounds like your cakes got a good consolidation period though that would account for massive fruits you encountered.
