The rest have very small holes. Did not replace the bands. I will report what happened but I do think the lids would be much easier....time to get out the drill, with the 1/8 bit!
Didn’t use tape then?
Also, I should perhaps clarify that I used to shoot 1/2cc into a shot glass as a control of sorts, this is the only thing I used the foil lid/s for. Also after inoculation I tape the foil in place (on top of the rubber band) to help seal against contaminants and it’s easier to write the strain/date etc. on the tape.
 Never had any contaminations.....

I don't bow to any guru, either!
Not saying his info is gospel.
Nor have I used this TEK.
Just saying I re-watched to be sure and dude is using inverted lids with micro-pore tape over the holes to keep out contams + foil to keep out water.

Why don't you try half with and half without tape and see which works better for you?

Yep, but then he removed the top layer of foil and injects THROUGH the micropore tape which would render the "MICRO" holes in the tape useless considering the 18g needle going thru it is far from "micro"

I make my PF lids the easiest way possible. I set them on a 2x4 scrap, and then use a large nail and hit it with a 3# sledge. The holes come out just a little bigger than a 16gauge needle, and each lid takes about 10 seconds to make.
BJ, thank you for correcting the erroneous information given earlier in the thread. My head was starting to hurt by the time I got to your post.

Lol, no problem man, I know how it is trying to learn new stuff and running into conflicting info... It's like WTF... And that's how I made my lids for PF-Tek too, pretty simple and efficient..

I never actually did pf tek. I went right to grain. I read a little too fast and assumed the OP was doing grain as well. I used lids, with aluminum foil for my first round. I watched an old video tek. I suffered a serious contamination issue. I call my kitchen the contamination station. I ordered SFDs about a month back, and they are wonderful. I have 7 rye grain control jars (No Inoculant) with sfd's sitting in my kitchen. Been sitting there for a month (shaken every other day or so). No contams.

OP... Sorry about my misinformation this morning, I've been out of the hobby for a few years and apparently didn't think before typing... I'll do my best to not let this happen again.
