Looks like we got a guerilla war
    #1729385 - 07/19/03 04:05 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

Any bets on how long this whole Iraq clusterfuck is going to last? And how much it's going to cost the taxpayer? Without an enormous increase in investment to get the people some semblance of a life back the guerilla war is only going to get worse. Do Bush and Blair really have the intention of spending billions getting the water flowing again rather than just the oil?

Or is the deal that as long as the Oil companies are making a proft the taxpayers can pay for the occupation?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/3079531.stm

A US soldier has been shot dead in Iraq by hostile fire, bringing the toll of soldiers killed to 149, according to military sources.
The soldier was from the First Armoured Division, a military spokesman said.

The killing reportedly took place at 1730 local time (1330 GMT) on Friday while the soldier was patrolling Baghdad.

The soldier's name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

There has been a wave of attacks against US-led coalition troops in Iraq which the army says are being carried out by forces loyal to Saddam Hussein.

More US troops have now died in combat since entering the country than all those killed during action in the 1991 Gulf War.

Since an end to major combat operations in Iraq was declared on 1 May, 35 US soldiers have been killed by hostile fire.

I cringe every time I hear someone going on about how it's all about oil. I don't deny that it may be, it just seems that has become the programmed pseud-intellectual response.

If Iraq is truely liberated, then it was all worthwhile.

Unfortunately, too many people disguise their cowardace as bravery. They would rather kill thousands of foreign civilians to gain a little safety. Somehow, to them an American life is worth more than that of someone who is not an American.

I would tell those people that if they are that afraid, then maybe they should go live somewhere safer, like Canada. They might say that they would rather stay and fight than give in. They make it sound like they are doing something brave, but they aren't.

Viet Nam was about cleaning up a mess the French made and couldn't handle. The stupid part of it was the way they tried to fight it. They were not allowed to do their jobs at all.

I hope you did realize i was using sarcasim in my last post. And yes the vietnam war was a total piece of pc bullshit. One example is how many viet cong would attack americans and then run across the border into kambodia. We couldn't attack them cuz we could not across the border. Finally nixon bomed a kambodian city where many vc where bealived to be hiding at. nixon got into a lot of shit for doing that. And i also bealive if the military was allowed to use their full poteniol bellow of chem bio or nuc weapons we would have won the war. But even then jungle warfare is the hardest type there is so still it would have taken a while.

I don't think they should have used nukes, or chems, or bio-weapons. It was a political war from hell. They would do as immaculate said, go in take some land, and leave. Then later they would try to take the same land back.

"Won" what? A country nuked into accepting US control? If they need nuking to accept us maybe it's time we had a rethink and let them govern themselves don't you think?

Incidentally they didn't do too bad with the chemical weapons - thousands of Vietnames children today are born deformed thanks to the agent orange.

I can't believe some people still support the vietnam war when they don't even know what it was about. the best they could come up with is:
"Viet Nam was about cleaning up a mess the French made and couldn't handle"
or
"It was a political war from hell"

LOL , I love anti-war sentiments..... This war has and will cost a bloody fortune but at the end of the day they got rid of saddam and liberated a country from a dictator. Whatever it was about whether it be oil or Bush getting bored, perhaps he felt like another war....

Feel free to respond with the usual shit I have hard it hundreds of times before

So it would be ok with you if Iraq sent assasins to the US to liberate us from a perceived dictator? And killed a few thousand of our civilians while they were at it???

Kind of puts things in perspective, doesn't it?

actually now that i think about it, if some people had to die to actually make this country "right" again that wouldnt be a bad idea. not that im supporting the iraq invasion or anything.

Not really, you Americans and your wacky ways ey?

First you support terrorism for years and even fund terrorist organisations, then as soon as soon as 9/11 is over, the war on terror begins....
To end terrorism, cos someone has to pay for blowing up the twin towers dont they?

To be honest I wouldn't care if the Iraqi's went to America to free you from your dictator, at the end of the day people like you would be helping them...

Perhaps you should volunteer to go and visit some terrorist organisations and see if there are as open-minded as you...
