Packaging materials are used to stop products from being banged around, thus causing failure. How would adding packaging materials help break up solids in a grain jar?

Some people don't shake the colonized jars they just spoon them out.
I am against this idea. Jars develop flaws over time and use. Imagine what would happen to all that glass if the jar breaks whilst in the shaker. You will be spraying shards in all directions. My eyesight is worth more than the effort to shake a jar. It really isn't that tough if you wash your grain well and add gypsum to the grain. Oh and don't burst too many kernels. Is far as just mixing partially colonized jars I do that at 25 percent. Still way easy.
Don't get me wrong I am all for enginuity. I just don't want to see anyone get hurt.

I seriously doubt that the glass would penetrate an inch or two of foam, and then the walls of a 5 gallon bucket.

"paint shakers are employed by commercial spawn makers but they are inappropriate for the home cultivator" pg 47 in Stamets' TMC.
The only reason I can think of not to is the same chucklehead mentioned. As long as you're not standing to close i'd imagine you'd be fine.

Like if you make so there's a bit of gap between the mold and the jar, then the jar would be able to slightly bounce around. Seems dangerous.
Personally, i think the juice ain't worth the squeezin" But i don't mind helping those on the path of self discovery.

Do you have a wife? Or girlfriend? Just make her shake the grain jars man. In fact, if you could get her to shake the jars WHILE making you a sandwich, then you're onto something.

I would imagine loading and setting a timer on a paint shaker would be a lot less work that just shaking the jars by hand.

This whole thread made me lol. It seems to me, loading the thing into a paint shaker would take longer than just knocking and shaking the damn things yourself

Depends on how colonized it is, and if you're set up for efficiency. I've had some jars colonize so thick that the only way to get them out was to scoop out the grains.

Takes me 2 hard hits on the bottom of my Timberland boot, and about 20 seconds of shaking.

I think this would work better than a paint shaker...

Are you talking about sprayfoam insulation that comes in a can?
That stuff is very sticky and hard to remove once dried. I worked with it a lot when i used to build houses out of insulated concrete forms.
You might could spray some in a bag, close it up, set it in a paint can and then put the jar in so the bag is a barrier between the foam and the jar. Could be like a reusable mold.
That's exactly the stuff. Like you said just use a bag to make sure the jar can come out or make a cut out of the jar and the 5 gal bucket is reusable. There's also that stuff you use for shipping where you mix it up and it forms around whatever is in the box.
So I've worked on projects in the past with this stuff. It is NASTY. Just make sure whatever you get it on is what you intended to get it on. Prefferably NOT your hair
To make a long story very short

I had to have some one do a lot of with a box cutter blade and it still didn't even come off. Had to let it grow out some first cause it was all in my follicles
Once that stuff starts expanding it has a mind of its own and poison control doesn't no shit about it either There's no known solvent to dissolve it according to the number on the back of the can haha...I think I still have a piece saved in a zip lock baggie somewhere and this was 4 years ago
Good luck with project I wish I had something more valuable to contribute

On the back of a can of "Great Stuff" spray foam insulation, it says it expands to 3 times it size and must be mechanically removed. LOL!

and that is the damn truth. When it started expanding and pulling on my scalp I knew I had made a very big mistake. Uncomfortable is not the word.
I guess I can relate to people who get cornrows with out ever having them

kerosene dissolves it, but is not a very good solution as it has it's own issues. You never really get it all off. I've used as many as 15 cans in 1 day on buildings. It is truly a sticky, clingy mess.

I'm pretty good with it because i've used it a lot, but it is very, very hard to control. It'll bow your door jam if you use too much.

I'd say using a paint shaker or even wanting to for breaking up grain jars, is for lazy S.O.B.s period!!!
