I agree with most of the stuff you post, but there's no way these figures are true.
clearly you're joking, a few cups of flour, a few eggs a rolling pin and a knife and you have fresh pasta, little tomato sauce even if it's just diced tomatoes cooked down a bit with some garlic, rosemary and basil. chicken breasts with skin on costs me $1.29/lb and I can have a 3 pack that weights about 1.5lbs and use 2 for a meal, include another egg, some flour, butterfly and pound the breasts to about 1/4" thick. a cup of cheap white wine, butter and some lemon with a few sliced mushrooms and you have a 5 star italian meal at $5 for a family of 5

1/2 pound of beef at $2.49/lb, a carrot, a crown of broccoli, a few mushrooms, a bell pepper, maybe a couple of peppers and some garlic and ginger, saute it on high heat until you decide to finish it, toss in some teriaki sauce, hoisin sauce or what ever you desire along with a teaspoon of corn starch mixed with cold water to thicken the liquid, serve with rice and again; for $1 per person; you have a great meal

a little imagination and you can do a lot for a small amount of cash

It's not about calories, it's about nutrient density. It doesn't matter how active you are, every person needs pretty similar amounts of vitamins and minerals as well as fats, proteins and carbs.
brown rice and beans are pretty nutrient dense. throw in some dark greens and a bit of fruit and that's all you really need.

I am with pwnasaurus here.
I (think) we are at about $150/week for two people, although it might be less or more, i have a hard time keeping track.
Usually we spend about $300 at costco every 4-6 weeks or so and that would be:
-2 roasts portioned = 7 portions $25 -1 salmon filet = 4-5 portions $25 -1 package of shrimp = 4-5 portions $20 -2 blocks of cheese = (1 monthish) $25 -2 bags of coffee (2 weeks/per bag) = $30 -1 package of ribs 3 portions = $25
and things like a gallon of milk, flat of eggs, 2 boxes of cereal, a lb of butter, pecans and apricots (other $ would be towards paper towel, toilet paper, laundry detergent, canned tomatos, pepper corns, etc.)
Then every 2nd day i buy fresh food: Broccoli, peppers, cabbage, carrots, beets, zuchinni, eggplant, and fruit usually $15-20 at a time, maybe upto $35 if we are buying milk, cream, canned beans, raw sugar, spices, fresh herbs, tortillas, artisan bread, etc.
+ we buy 5lbs of chicken, and goats feta for really good prices at the local halal market.
We don't eat any junk food really besides tortilla chips, and nann bread. Maybe juice and soy milk once in awhile... The only packaged thing we were relying on for ahwile was packaged chicken cordon bleu, but we've avoided those the past 2 shopping trips.
I traditionally have spent without restraint on food but am starting to hold back a bit, finances are tighter now that we've decided to go traveling.
That said, we eat almost entirely fresh food with the exception of canned goods, and eat out infrequently.
We usually eat leftovers for lunch (curry, rice and mexican dishes usually) and i eat 4 bananas and 2 apples a day, maybe a plum and grapefruit..
I don't know - it adds up. I'll scrimp and save on other things, and don't party or drink or anything, so eating a solid dinner every night is my (our) thing.
Our friends consider us gourmets.

The amount of money I spend on groceries each week is inversely proportional to the amount of money spent on beer and drugs.

Realistically I try to keep it to about 10 bucks a day of food.. sometimes it's less when i'm cooking large meals and eating leftovers, and sometimes I'm feeling lazy and I go out to eat for all meals so it's a little more

My GF and I spend a total $100-$125 a week between our CSA and our other groceries (Bacon, Beer, and Random spices if needed). This excludes the one or two meals a week eat out

I buy 2lbs of coffee for about $5, I can add chicory and make it last twice as long
I spend $2.49/lb on a roast that's close to 6lbs, $14 total, I get 3 racks of ribs for $17-$21 depending on whether they're on sale, I buy a pork loin for between $1.69/lb to $2.39/lb. NY Strip is $3.99/lb-$4.99/lb if I buy it whole a 20oz block of cheddar is about $5

I can feed four people a very well balanced and full meal for $120 a week. I also live in a very high grocery price area.
I use, "managers special", aka, "used bread/meat/frozen goo/shelf stable good", as much as possible.
Just had our, "service industry post-thanksgiving Thanksgiving", tonight.
I'm trying to monitor my diet, and seeing exactly what goes into my grub certainly helps.

i grocery shop 2-3 times a month, spend about $25 a week for just me. sometimes i'll have friends or a chick over for dinner, but i don't see a difference in what i spend that week. i also don't buy meat, 75% of my groceries is fruits and veggies, also no boxed or pre-made meals. i also eat 50% of my meals at work, and sometimes get to take food home from work, so all those keep my grocery bills low.

I 'can' get by on ~$25-$30 a week if i'm eating a lot of rice, lentils, tuna, fresh fruits and vegetables and feel like I have a very balanced diet. I know just because I spent a couple weeks seeing how cheaply I could eat and still have a balanced diet with minimal focus on what I like eating and only focus on nutrition. I choose to not do this because I make enough money to spoil myself by eating better things that cost more money, and in reality probably spend $100 a week or so.

I would say I spend ~60 a week on groceries. I run/bike/swim a lot so I tend to eat way more than the normal person. I love eating.

~$25 on energy drinks $28 on turkey burgers ~$20 on turkey or chicken hot dogs $10 on water ~$10 on cheese ~$25 on other keto foods like almonds, peanuts or beef jerky
That kind of sucks, but keto makes me feel good so it's worth it.
You spend money on water?
Keto isn't working for me. I can go 3 maybe 3.5 days then I crash and eat a bunch of carbs. I think I can learn to eat 1/3 of the daily carbs around 80-100 but I get moody and depressed and bingy if I'm doing full keto. It's nice because I put on muscle mass but I don't know how sustainable it is (for me), but I have some fuuuuuucked up eating issues so maybe it's just me.

I do too! My tap water is seriously disgusting... I barely feel clean after using bleach as soap while standing in the shower scrubbing with a Brillo pad for hours in that hard sulfurous smelling shit.

yeah there's places in the midwest that have some extremely foul tap water. So consider yourselves lucky if your tap water is actually good water.

I can spend anywhere between 25-100+ dollars a week on food by myself... It highly depends if Im sober/not sober, depressed/not depressed Sometimes I overindulge in over-priced stuff like dried blueberries (almost 6 dollars) and acai juice (8 dollars). So if I buy 3-4 items that are up there in price, the bill just skyrockets!

about $60 bucks a week. i live off of locally grown veggies and fruit, rice, and chicken that i combine with various sauces in my wok. i also eat a lot of peanut butter sandwiches. i changed my diet at the beginning of this semester. i've dropped about 20 lbs and feel pretty awesome. i've been slippin' a little lately with the holidays though. too much booze.
