Beware of bad LC??
    #17284897 - 11/26/12 02:19 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

I think the LC was bad with bacteria and I didn't really "test" it before making the spawn.... What you guys think

Try & break one up & smell it.
Just because you don't see rhizomorphic growth, doesn't mean they're contaminated.
If those jars looked 100%, then the bottoms started "decolonizing" it's a contam, for sure.
Some sort of Bacteria & or mold.

I've never seen that happen personally. What are the usual causes? Bacteria or mould? Can both contaminants cause this to happen?

Initially, I thought it was bacteria, but I let a few jars sit longer & pink/lipstick mold popped up.

Interesting. I've seen pictures of this phenomenon before, but never first hand. I was just curious, thank you.

I just g2g now. LC's gave me too much of a head ache. 20 jars here to bacteria, 40 jars here to bacteria. These were AFTER tests as well.

Oh well, everyone will gravitate towards what they prefer and what works for them.

With a g2g... How long is full colonization estimated?  Is a month way to long?

I can turn one fully colonized quart into 100 in a little more than 3 weeks time...maybe 4, depending on the culture.

2 weeks is my average for a non-isolate culture.
It also depends on how many jars you G2G to.
If you're doing 1 quart to 5, they'll colonize in 1/2 the time of 1 to 10.
Normally, I do 1 jar to 8.
7 jars for spawning to bulk & 1 jar to G2G.
Sometimes, it's 6 then 2.

It takes my g2g receiving quart jars  14 days give or take to colonize.

Those jars do look like bad. You will probably be able to fruit them but expect low yeilds.

What could be a cause of slow colonization? Possibly I dried the grains out to much before pressure cooking?? The growth looks great though... Lol
