help! Hollow stem in my p.cubensis! Why?
    #1728226 - 07/18/03 06:34 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

I'm having a very fruitfull pftek-culivated p.cubensis "lipa tai" coltivation. On 23 Jars all of them were succesfull, with no contanm and producing many fruits, small medium and large. But sometimes some of them will be very hollow, and they always grow in random directions, usually horizontal or toward the perlite. Why?

The light is reflecting off the perlite and your little friends are getting confused. Try decreasing the light intensity. A little diffused natural light from the top is all they need to grow straight up.

Congratulations on the crop!

This guy I know had some hollow stems w/ pink buff's and read that it was nothing to worry about. Evidently, it happens sometimes with certain strains (?).

george is right - hollow stems are normal for many cubie strains - argentineans didnt seem to have those if i remember, but most do.

thanks to all for reassuring my beginner-intermidiate grower questions. What would be, once the cakes are done with their flushes, a good way to do a small bulk little patch? I want to do somethimg small and simple, basic, since is almos my first time. I don't have a pressure cooker, and I don't have much money. I know there are tons of techniques, but a really low tech, unexpensive way. It can be hi mantainance, but just not too hard and expensive!
