Blue Ringers on Queen Ann Hill in Seattle
    #1727856 - 07/18/03 04:20 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

Wouldn't you just know it. HEre I am getting readyt top leave for southeast Asia and I was up at a friends house on Queen Anne hill when I came across across this beautiful Condo Lawn with some little LBM's growing sparsely across the grass. They were in two lawn sections of a block long set of condos. I am sure with a good rain that there would probably be somemore in a while. But I am leaving soon for se Asia so unless someone else finds them they will just come up and spore, and that won't be so bad. I am sure when I come home there will be a lot. And I have no way to take them somewhere to dry them before I leave so i ahve to leave them on the lawn

What was neat was this little old lady who came outside to ask what I was doing. I told her photographing some l;awn mushrooms and she began to tell me to be careful and not poison my self. I told her I wasn't eating them just photographing them. She said, Those are toadstools and you have to be careful. I read somewhere where some people had died eating the wrong kind of toadstools.

Hehehe. Smart little lady.

Here are 8 shots which were the last pictures in my Nikon. I was out empting a roll film from my friends graduation party a few months ago at the U of W and these were not so bad for a telephoto lens on my Nikon EM.

Mj and have a real shroomy day, I did.

heh, on our way to texas for my cousin's wedding, my girlfriend and i found some big ole mushrooms in the grass at a rest stop, like 8-10" caps. She was calling her grandparents in ft worth to arrange a lunch date when i showed them to her. She said to her grandma "[bluefoot23] just found some giant mushrooms out here" to which her grandma replied "oh, be careful!" as though we just went around eating any mushrooms we found. actually, my gf didn't theink the fear was over eating them, but just being near them, like they were going to eat us or something. later, over lunch, her grandpa was asking "are you sure they were mushrooms and not toadstools?" Later, when I told my aunt and uncle about the mushrooms we found, the first thing my aunt said was "did you eat them?" I told her "yeah, i eat any mushrooms i find, that way i can know whether they're poisonous or not". I was very quick then to tell her that was utter sarcasm and never to eat a wild mushroom w/o extensive research and identification.

Blue ringeres compoise two species, mostly P. stuntzii and P. fimetaria.

They an grow all year long if th weather conditions are right. I picke a bunch in Marh of this year. Pictures of that with news headlines are archived here somewhere formthat time of the year. I also found a lone P. baeocystis in June.

Psilocybeing,

Psilocybe strictipes is not rare and has nothing to do with Psilocybe baeocystis, I explained that above and in several other posts here re ently with photos.

It is macroscopically similar to a liberty cap and is often found in collections of liberty caps. It grows int he pastures. I noted above here that Soinger and Smith erred in their identification and every new book in t he late 1970s including mine carried that original error .

Here is all you need to know so you can learn the real shroom known as P. strictipes.

Have a shroomy day.

mj

I have found P.scriptieps and it was on the front lawn of some guy, and there was adead tree , I though maybe they were feeding off that and in this book I have about mushrooms (http://www.erowid.org/library/books/hallucinogenic_and.shtml)

it says that cyans and baeos and scriptipes are all POTENT and about the same

For the last time Psilocybeing, P strictipes is not a lawn shroom, is not related to Psilocybe cyans or p. baeocystis and grows in pastures along with liberty caps. If you took the time to read my two or three above posts you would know what the f I am talkking about but it does not seem to go into your head. I really will not respond to your posts again if your persist in aassociating the shroom with P. cyans or P. baeocystis. Everyone including Paul Stamets and me all made this same error twenty five years ago and every other book followed the error.

Pay more attention. I posted the info and obviously you did not read it.

mjh. This is not how i want to spend my vacation here in Thailand responding to your telling the same story over and not hearing what anyone says.

DId you have a long flight MJ?

The text you posted out of Stamets book states that P. strictipes can be found in lawns.

Take a deep breath, and have a truely shroomy day...Thai style!

While paul posted about the shroom could be found in lawns he himself has never found any in a lawn.

While Liberty caps hae been know to apear in lawns and P. strictipes is along with them, I personally only know three people int hirty years who have found alwan int he PNW with P. strictipes on it.

In EWngland and Europe that is another story but, Psilocybeing is referring to posts whioch alluded to the story of P. strictipes being a larger and/or shrotern version of P. baeocystis which most guides errd in iding due to a mistalke by Singer and Smith.

ANd tregarding allt he early warnings of the 6-year-old boy who died form P. baeocystis in Washington inthe early sixieties. THe actual shroom inthat case, also misidentified by Singer and Smith as P. baeocystis was actually P. cyanescens. Two doctors involoved inthe case and one who actually treatd the dying kid all sner me the plaroid images of the mushroms and tey wre PSilocybe cyanescens.

Both those errors of the strictip[es and baeocys were int he early years of lerning abouth these shrooms when not many people knew they existed in America.

Also Yes Gumby dude I correctred the typos. However i am typing from both Thai and Japanese keyboards which have a one and a half inch space bar on them and a " singn where the internet emai @ sign is at.

bye . I took pictures of one of the King of Thailands white elephants yesterday at the Palace gardens. Cannot find USB port with photoshop on same computer. ill ave to postt thursday at ht he University hen I have ascccess to good eqquiptment.

SJon
