Psychoactive drugs helping to achieve enlightenment
    #1726298 - 07/17/03 09:23 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

I dont usually frequent the philosophy boards, and im not even sure this is the right place for it, but...I believe psychoactive drugs have either enlightened or made many people believe they have been enlightened. This scares me. The only drugs I've done were pot, shrooms and alcohol.

I've recently been very interested in trying Salvia. I've been looking things up and read reports on it. I know from experience 'trip reports' are in no way an accurate depiction mind blowing experiences...how could they be..? This is what scares me, many people find 'enlightment' from these drugs and become very depressed after discovering the sad 'truth'. I believe, in a sense, ignorance is bliss...the less you know about the way things work, the easier it is to live your life care-free.

Now, the question is do I want to experience these drugs and possibly change my view on life..or continue as I see things now. As of now, Ive only done fairly low doses of shrooms, but I know there power and can easily believe one's entire perspective on life can be changed by a drug like that. I'm only a teenager (18 of course) so do I want to go through 60 more years of my life feeling depressed about the way life is..of course not.

Anyway, my question is does anybody feel more depressed or wish they hadnt experienced certain drug(s) after 'truths' or 'enlightenment'....?
I just dont want to regret anything like that....thanks

With knowledge comes unhappiness.. That's just the way it works.. if I could go back and do it all over again, I would have stayed in school, but if that involved not experiencing the things I've experienced, then fuck it.. I like things how they are...

Just don't let yourself get out of hand.. take it one step at a time, and if things get too out of hand, ease up, sit back, and think about the path you've walked... Our destination is all the same - it's how you get there that's important.

Not the saint, but the sinner that repenteth, is he to whom the full length and breadth, and height and depth, of life's meaning is revealed. Good and evil loose all objective meaning and are seen as equally necessary and contrasting elements in the masterpiece that is the universe.

The concept of enlightenment is only held sacred by the unenlightened.

Hierarchies are for the insecure.
Drop labels and quit comparing... that's what I say anyways...

Live life with no regrets.

Once you've discovered "the truth," recognize it, but let it control you. While the truth is out there, before this knowledge was bestowed you are living in a capitalist society in which you need to survive unless EVERYTHING in the world changed.

My "Enlightenment" from DXM was one that validated and increased my own skepticism. I came to the temporary conclusion, that I can't really acheive some ultimate knowledge or truth. Everything I think I know, lies on an assumption, maybe. Sometimes, this can lead to unpleasant thoughts, but other times it is distinctly positive.

Since I can't know whether or not DXM was actually causal, I think you should strike my anecdotal report from the record.

If enlightenment scares you, why not just wait 10 years before you try a level 5 trip? You are still young, no need to hurry.

why would anyone want to be care-free?  TO me caring is one of the true beauties of life.

As far as enlightment goes, you should ask yourself why you would want to do 5 grams of mushrooms?  What purpose are you seeking from this?

Experiencing something like that is awesome and sometimes scary, but it all really depends on your personality. I can say that I did 5 grams and my mind was blown away. At that time I could have either let go of myself for a bit and find out, or stay and suffer. The drug themself are neutral, its your state of mind at the time and your personality that will determine what will happen.  I can't really say I have any regrets though

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

An ego-shattering experience is not equivalent with the consensus definition of what it means to be enlightened.

Once again...
It's not what you experience on such a journey that is important, it's what you BRING BACK. Mystical experiences don't mean jack shit if you can't apply them to your everyday lives.

Live it.

yeah your right on with that one. I've yet to have an-ego shattering experience, but everytime I've done shrooms, I've learned something new about myself which will help me live a happier life.

It means something even if the only thing that's brought back is that you tell someone about it.

getting "f*cked up" isn't so much the primary objective anymore. altering conciousness...i wonder if this has something to do with our next step in evolution. it seems like more people are exploring to gain new perspectives on reality and personal insights on life.

That could be because your getting older viaggo...maybe the people you associate with are maturing and 'getting fucked up' isnt there goal anymore.. not neccesarily the 'next phase of evolution'

Think about vibrant! I too see that once you get to a certian point it makes just idle day to day life untollerable. It shows you the matrix, that everything is not real. Do you want to see that? (its the blue pill, red pill philosiphy!)

I guess you could say this is my last post. Ive decided to stop talking and listen. Ive realized that in the last year of posting ive done more harm than good, when it comes to trying to "free" those from the matrix. Ego plays a huge part in this, and I am a slave to it. But in someways aren't we all?

Ive probibly learned more in the last month than i have in the last year. It's called "vision", and even though life can truely become hell (but heaven at the same time) once its found, i suggest all people find it!

www.2013.com - is a great website, see what im talking about

Ive learned that what one expierences on a psychedelic, isn't god, or the devil (as some would think). Its yourself, its a computer! A computer thats connected to the global network of brains. Your 3rd eye is like the cpu of the brain! If they don't use the 3rd eye (the cpu) are you AI? lol

There is no god or devil, there just is!

There is no heaven or hell, there just is!

lol, is 22 years old?

and i guess what i meant by "next phase for of evolution" should have been taken in the more gradual sense. if using psychadelics and whatnot to expand conciousness becomes more comon place, then (over time) the human race could be moving into a new direction. eh, kinda off the wall, but it's possible.

Rhizoid: It means something even if the only thing that's brought back is that you tell someone about it.

This is garbage, too.
