Chanterelles (Updated pictures with cinnabar chanterelle)
    #1725920 - 07/17/03 07:38 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

After reading Gumbydudes miniature hunting guide I went to a likely spot. I'm 99% sure these are the same chanterelles Gumbydude just found. They were found in a hardwood forest running down the edges of a natural stream. These are about the best pictures my camera is capable of taking...

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Sounds like a plan. Thanks for the confirmation. I have to go out and collect the rest this morning. Do you know exactly what kind of Chanterelle they are?

Very nice.

Your Cinnabar Chanterelle could be, but I can't see the gills well enough to say that it isn't a very orangish specimen of Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca. If they're clearly blunt, then it's a chanterelle.

Happy mushrooming!

I'm thinking that they're either Cantharellus odoratus or Cantharellus lateritus. It's possible that they're both.

I can't seem to get a picture that clearly represents the redness of the mushroom. Here's the best gill close-up I can get...

GD, when you found the Chanterelles in your post where they all close together in one big patch? The ones I found were all running down the hillside along the sides of natural streams leading to the chattahoochie. I followed it a long way, but wondered if I kept going if I'd eventually reach a huge patch.
