    #1723073 - 07/16/03 09:11 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

How does this casing plan sound? think everything is fine or should i change something?
im gunna get a tin pan apx.
6"X"10"X5" or
9"X"5"X3"

Put a layer of perlite on the bottom.
Crummble cakes and lay a lair ontop the parlite
then put a lair of scotts 3-in-1 organic compost mix
cover it with tinfoil till its fully colonized
take off tinfoil and put in fruiting chamber and let them grow

DO NOT use the bottem layer of perlite....
its a waste, and a good vector to introduce contamination....

ive never used scotts 3-n-1 so i cant say if it will be good or not..
make sure the scotts 3n1 does not have any nutrients in it... or else u are asking for contamination again....
its just as easy to get some coir and vermiculite

be sure to moisten the mix before u add it.....

you could do that but i ment.

1.crumble fully colonized cakes at the bottom so it is fully covered
2.take the perlite and mix it together with you casing
3.add casing to the top of the colonized cakes
4.add some water

and just so you know you can buy some composts with perlite already added to it

you don't want dirt or soil to case so you should check to see what it has in it.but I would just go to the home depot and pick up some cow manure for a 2kg bag it's only $2.50 so it probaly is alot cheaper to buy then that 3 in 1 and you get alot more of it too.last time i was there i saw some manure that was called "Mushroom manure" and i ask the worker there why is it called that and i was told it is PH balanced for mushrooms and i picked up a bag right now i'm testing it out with EQ and so far so good i'll just have to wait to see how it fruits

don't use perlite, use vermiculite that has been mixed with water and squeezed by hand until only a few drops come out. microwave this damp vermiculite for 10 minutes or so. then let it cool in it's container and finally put a layer say 1/2 inch or less on the bottom of the casing. this is considered risky but AFOAF has done it and worked fine.
