Here are pics of cooked rye, fresh out of the pot and steaming in the colander. I used 1/2 coffee [brewed] which makes the grains look kinda dark to me.

Just hot:

Although I believe Gypsum is not needed for horse manure. Mainly for things like coir which are calcium deficient.
So to make a slight correction, Gypsum is not really needed for Horse Manure. you can use it but results show its really best suited for things other then Horse Manure(which gives several flushes on its own and has enough calcium for fruit formation without additives.)
I was debating the idea with Gretchen in chat and it seems she is right
Nice write up dude you put a lot of time into this I see.
Out-grow is amazing, I use them for all my supplies, and I use thesporedepot.com for any spores or cultures, they kick ass too.
I got all the info for the Gypsum from RR, he definitely recommends using it on horse manure. Though you're right, manure isn't deficient in calcium or sulfur (such as coir). But it still benefits from gypsum just as any substrate would, not just from the nutrition but because of the PH buffering.
Quote:
RogerRabbit said: Gypsum will definitely increase yields when added to horse manure, or ANY other substrate for that matter. Calcium and sulfur are both nutrients used in mushroom fruitbody formation. In addition, gypsum prevents the wild swings in pH we often see as the mushroom mycelium colonizes a substrate. Use it at 5% to 10% by volume to the dry horse manure.
I have put a lot of time and work here, and I plan to continue doing so, I'm far from satisfied Thanks for the kind words and the motivation.
That's quite interesting thanks for the info. I will play around with it

Not sure if I'm satisfied with the way the tips and tricks section is working out. Its on the chopping block unless I can find a way to salvage or revive it tonight after work.
Got some other ideas if not.

Heres my contribution today, mycelium just starting to colonize on grains:

Blue oyster pins, they look like saphires lol

you said you opened it in the same room as your flow hood; PLEASE don't tell us you opened it in front of the flowhood with it running...... if so, your whole room is now coated with trich spores.....

You know.

Edit: Lately a few sponsers have had some serious Apergillus (of many species) issues. It's just going around I guess.

Specifically need pics of:
Fruiting chambers
Aerial mycelium
Mutated shrooms (genetic)
Shrooms grown in insufficient environment
Edibles mushrooms, and edible mushroom mycelium, all edibles/medicinals
Items used in cultivating mushrooms, tools, equipment, substrates, etc
Improperly prepared spawns (too wet, too dry, etc)
Still taking pics of cubensis pins, mycelium, pretty much everything except mature fruits.
NOTE: If you do not have a camera, or cannot get any of the shots above you may also search the forums for these pics, just don't submit any crappy cell phone pics, make sure they are clear, and include the persons name who posted them. Any images that are scavenged will include the original posters name, and the person who found them and submitted thems name in the credits. I was given permission by admins to use any pictures from anybody.
Secondly, the tips and tricks thread is actually maturing a bit, and some good tips are being thrown around. I am monitoring the situation and gathering tips.
Thank you all in advance.

hey peeps,
is it normal for grains to burst in the bottom of wbs jars?
leaving what looks like, well...i popped grain, that leaves like, white substance on the jar, im guesssing sticky, cause the grain around it wont move when i shake,
the jar is pretty dry, when taken from the PC, it almost looked like if it was overcooked,
out of 8 jars, only this one has this suspicion floating around it.
