1/2 pint to pint yeild
    #1721479 - 07/16/03 02:13 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

hey got a question. ive been using half pints pretty regular now.making casings and such. i usually get 2-4 grams dried off each cake. This time i wanted to grow a little more than i usually do. about a half p to be exact. some of my questions are how much do you usually get off a pint cake? does it take longer to colonize.is it a higher risk for contams? because if i got double the yeild i would just do 56 p instead of 112 1/2.

ya pint cakes take longer to colonize... just make 2 1/2 pints and make a casing... u will get a lot bigger of a yeild with casings... and they arent any harder than anything else...

bulk cultivation... look in the advanced cultivation FAQ... Shroom Gods straw is pretty easy, combined with cakes or grain for spawn. Takes a little longer to see results but the results are pretty nice.

yeah i think your right kukusz. i should probly try to move a step forward instead of spending more money and staying in the same spot. ive mastered the cakes and casings. but im kind of weary about going into bulk teks. ive got pauls book mushroom cultivator. but alot of the stuff in there is over my head. i tryed a staw tek not too long ago but it got nats in it and i didn't think i paturized enough. i still got shrooms but nothing like what i should have gotten. well thinks for the help and i think going to try 6t tek. looks preety easy. anybody nowhere to get tyvek filter material other than ordering from a vendor.

or if you're not into the bulk thing (or are limited to brf because of lack of pressure cooker) you can use fractional sterilization on WBS or rye then case. 12 quart jars == 24 pints == 48 1/2 pints, and you should get some mighty fine flushes very quickly, possibly in less than 4 weeks. quarts are easy to prepare and each provides for a good casing.

tyvek envelopes - pack of 50 for liek 20 bucks (a little pricey) but it will last you forever. Or just get like 5 envelopes for like a buck each, that should last you for about 20 quarts or so... Or go to home depot, and get a tyvek painting suit or something like that (so I heard). WBS is great for starting bulk.

Oh and really good straw to start with - get it at a big arts and crafts store, like 8 bucks for a little bale that lasts you plenty. In my friend's experience, these are not very contam prone, they are very clean. Once you get the hang of it you can get straw in bulk again from a farm or feed store or whatever.
