well i have lost a tray to the dreaded green mold other 2 seem to be plugging along nicely should be ready for fruiting soon. definitely getting anxious / nervous at this point hoping i dont have anymore loss due to contams. contaminated tray was disposed of immediately to prevent spreading.

Keep it going man Is this your first grow? At any rate, I can see you're learning a lot about what and what not to do... As you progress, your failure rate will diminish to almost nothing... Keep on keeping on!!
Oh, and you'll love mono-tubs!

Ok for anyone who is following this i have lost another tray of substrate what i found upon further inspection is that by following the tek and putting a thin layer of the coir mix on top it leaves a huge area open for contams. The inside of the tray looked healthy and was fully colonised however the top layer being the last place the mycelium works on has in this case has contaminated before the mycelium really had a chance to take it over. From what i am seeing in any case when spawning to bulk make sure to have an even distribution on mycelium and do not cover the top with a layer of bulk substrate it is best to just mix everything together with the colonized spawn distributed as evenly as possible through out the mix to allow for fast colonization and reduce risk of contams. I am giving the last tray i prepared from the first batch a 50/50 chance of compleation. Either way i have used all of my mistakes as a learning oportunity and continue to refine my methods. I do however suggest if you are going to do bulk in any manner go with monotubs. I will continue to keep the thread updated and as soon as my camera is found i will post up some pics of my last tray from the first batch . My second batch trays are however thriveing from what i can see i am being meticulous with them to prevent them from being contaminated and will post more on those when they are ready to fruit. On a side note second batch trays do not have a layer of substrate laying on top i did as i would recomend and just mixed everythin together evenly !!

How are these getting GE during colonization? Those lids are air-tight.

I went back and modified the lids with holes covered with micropore tape originaly had no holes then went to five covered with the tape and finally due to a concern of to much fae covered 4 holes coved with duck tape and one in the center i left covered with micropore tape unfortunatly i had alot of opportunities for contams to get hold but i am learning quickly

Your world is filled with contams waiting to happen. Since you can't avoid them during substrate layout and fruiting, you have to do everything possible to give yourself an advantage.
#1: When colonizing substrate, you NEED a BIT of air. 100% sealed favors contams. A lid of a mono taped on the short sides (for stability and the ENSURE you do not open it by accident) will leave the long edges with a bit of opening. No, I do not put in bags or block the light, I've seen the light (thanks guys). But I do put it in a still air room that has an ozone machine nearby.
So the 1st couple of days with no air might have fucked you.
#2: Myc is fragile. These are microfuckingscopic connections here. Every time you lift/move/look at with a bit of harshness your tray will have a negative affect. Every bit of broken myc is an opportunity for contam to get established. LEAVE IT THE FUCK ALONE.
#3: EVERY OPENING IS BAD. YOU LIFT THAT GODDAMNLID ONE MORE TIME YOU SHOULD GET SMACKED.
Sorry, now that I've gotten that out of the way, consider the fact I suffered with trays (and by suffered, I mean some awesome harvests punctuated by heartbreak of contams) and fully support your goals here.
I shut down my FC a month ago. No reason for it.
Move to montubs. Much easier, perfect humidity, self contained. And smaller trays do not colonize or fruit faster than monotubs. It just feels like they should. They don't. So no reason to fuck around with the small stuff.
Learn to leave it alone. Do NOT have goals of MUST BE COLONIZED IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS. You have to find the perfect myc to achieve those speeds (I'm down to 7 days for my PE, YAY, but the norm is 3-5 weeks for everything else I currently have, booo), it is not the norm, but almost all myc will give good results if you LEAVE IT ALONE.

ViolentSmoker21 the tubs are 109 Quart and i belive run 10 bucks each at wally world
Shroom_bee All of your points are valid and i have learned all of this already each time i have messed up i have made note and learned from it the lids had only been opened up once all other changes to the lids had been completed with the lids on. Already planning on moving to mono tubs as soon as the last 3 Trays I have are finished will be working on getting the spawn ready for the mono tubs as soon as i have the supplies i need. And i agree i do need to be smacked for screwing up so many times but I've learned from every mistake I've made so over all i know better now. thanks for the feed back tho its much appreciated.

Ok quick update i hate it but my camera has decided it does not like to take clear photos anymore I have started to get fruit from the last tray in my first batch seems that they are only getting to about 2 inches in height but after much discussion in the cultivation chat im thinking its genetics and not a lot can be done to fix that lol. I did notice that i was not getting a proper humidity level after buying a hygrometer so to correct that issue i raised the SGFC up off the tables to allow for an approximately 5 inches instead of the 2 or 3 inches that is recommended and also have added a cool mist humidifier in the closet. I am now keeping a 100 percent humidity level in the fruiting chamber. Also i have lowered the room temp to stay at an almost constant 73 degrees which was recommended to me as a possible way to get the mushrooms to grow a little larger if genetics is not in fact the problem. Pins are starting to spring up at a more abundant rate and the tray itself seems to be thriving. I will continue to work on getting some pictures and will update with final dry weight once first flush has finished. Also the 2 trays from second batch of jars are colonizing nicely no signs of contamination and i have not had to remove the lids for any reason, i did however relocate them to a cabinet over my refrigerator due to the lowered temp in the closet to help keep them warm the temp was monitored prior to relocation and seems to stay at a constant 80 degrees. I did take precaution and cleaned the cabinet as well as spayed down with lysol 30 Min's prior to the relocation. With any luck the second batch of trays will be the better as far less mistakes where made on my part.

shroom_bee, that is an awesome post I must say!!
And taterg25, taking notes is what keeps me going man. If we didn't learn from our mistakes we wouldn't make shit, in my belief. Thanks for posting. I am learning from your mistakes as well. lol. Good luck with all your growing!!!
