I just read that whole long post and finally got to your point which was don't shit where you eat. It would be full retard to transfer directly from SR to Mt Gox to your bank account. You need to mix up the coins and redirect them through things like online casinos and foreign country accounts for cashing out. This is just common sense.

Yea I was just stating that once you put money through Mt. Gox in to your wallet from your account or take money out than your cover has been blown and they have a lead so you need to hide that shit hardcore.

( I forgot to mention )Plus it doesn't really matter how much you wash through to other bitcoin address or people there will be a trail that easy as hell to follow until you get the money out of the bitcoin currency.

Tor isn't a browser, it's a program that sets up an traceable proxy. You can then use any browser and point it at the proxy to become anonymous.

Most programs and soft-wear that people use for cyber crimes like hacking or selling drugs among other things are publicly owned and operated and allow any one to become a developer like Tor, Linux, and many others do. Thus since they are publicly owned an operated any one can just snoop around and find stored documents, folders, and files and tamper, read, and edit them to there will once they figure out how to step in to the developer shoes.
If you put a backdoor in one of these programs, it will be found and taken out before the code goes live. It's not like you can write code and immediately make people run it. If all the people who review the code drop the ball, you could slip some malicious code in, but that is unlikely.

Once some one has learned how to become a developer for Fire Fox for the sake of the discussion right now. They can literally change any thing they want. They can deface web sites. Break in to web site and steal log in information and other stuff.
I own the website http://plantobserver.org. Please deface it, I give you permission.
Regarding the bitcoins, you aren't supposed to buy them with your bank account. Most Silk Road guides tell you to buy a prepaid credit card with cash, and use that to buy bitcoins.
Also there are ways to launder bitcoins.

The point of my post was to explain how bitcoins can be traced. I consider Tor a browser that uses anonymous proxy unlike fire fox because you can still surf with it. I don't see how you would consider it just a proxy. Saying that once you learn how to use the developer tools ( learn how to skript / or hack ) you could deface some ones web site and shit. Why is every one taking shit so literal.
Using a prepaid card would be like using a prepaid phone yea that's not able to be traced back to you. I was explaining Silk Roads weakness and how you could get caught.

Try plantobserver.org

Also its "Firefox" not "Fire Fox".

Because what you said was wrong. When you make certain claims, they have to be accurate. The last thing anyone needs is MORE misinformation on bitcoins and SR.

Most modern software devs use a revision management system, which means that malicious developers would have a hard time getting their code into an official build. Not to mention this code is open source, and therefore open for anyone to check. Checkout github, it's pretty neat.
Currency trading creates a problem when you consider a deficit in your regular bank account, but that's why you purchase more coins that you intend to use, spend what you need, and encrypt your machine. Unlike all other modern currencies purchases cannot be tracked in realtime, so nobody notices a deficit in your bitcoin like in your bank accounts. Consider, for example cash money, I take out 1000 units from my bank in cash, at this point the money is a deficit in my account, but it is extremely difficult to track what I have and have not purchased.
I'm more interested in the possible holes Tor has. Tor is a low latency darknet, which means it makes relatively few hops to serve your data to you, which also makes it somewhat vulnerable in terms of third parties infiltrating your data. You could for example, find the unique fingerprint of a browser using Tor, which makes some elements available such as fonts and network adapters (ways to track your identity). Bitcoin on the other hand, does not in my opinion, present as much risk as using Tor could.
You have to, at least, consider the people that allegedly use this service and come away unscathed from a supposedly broken system. Nevertheless you probably aren't the only person to believe these things, and so it's a good way to clear up the misconceptions.

There are plenty of examples of malicious code getting into open source software. If anything open source means no one is getting paid to review code. Trusting open source code is like trusting you won't get raped on the bus. The overwhelming majority of the time you are OK, but unless you can audit the code yourself, well http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/LA-County-Sheriffs-Department-Culver-City-Alleged-Rape-on-Public-Bus-178042791.html

Who is honestly going to give a shit or support these small-time busts over nonsense? It makes them look bad because they can't even use the excuse of "We're keeping these drugs off the streets and away from the children." when it's going through the postal service. This is an almost perfect answer to the drug war. Just send your drugs through the mail and the police don't give a shit. No local transactions, no one getting ripped off (escrow), no one dying, purer product etc etc. I think it's a great system.

Your http://www.plantobserver.org does not appear to me to be vulnerable to SQL injection, which I think OP was referring to in the browser defacing of websites. I did not try anything sophisticated though, just a 15 second check for SQL vulnerability.

It is a great system and it does take all of the violence out of the drugs but that doesn't change the fact that there are still ways to reveal your identity that I pointed out by taking money from you account. True SR does tumble every thing to make it harder to trace through block-explorer and other sites and you wont be able to tell who bought what object because bitcoins doesn't take records of that. Just how much you spend and your address, date, and I think time. There are still ways that the DEA can catch people though. Say they arrest a guy they believe got drugs from silk with the sting op they do and shit once they find stuff in the package and trace his bitcoin address to other addresses until they get a lead by running in to some one that though bitcoin and silk were fool proof and that there was no way to find out who they were no matter what and took them money straight from there bank. All though that is highly unlikely and there more likely just going to increase security by searching packages but theres no way you can search all of them. Even if then they would just start using private couriers for larger stuff like pounds like people all ready do.

That wouldn't work. In your scenario, they would arrest the guy, search his computer and what? Even if they had a bitcoin address, what then? The address is his. How would they trace it to someone elses? It just does not work that way. Perhaps if someone did a direct transfer to someone's wallet, and that person didn't update their wallet (but even then pretty damn hard), yes, but that is NOT the case with SR, as you do not send money to people's wallets directly.
Stop spreading misinformation about Tor and bitcoins and SR, its annoying.

The blockchain should always lead to a dead end or legit transactions. There's lots of ways to wash bitcoins or cash them out anonymously. If you're talking about buying them that's totally legal. Ever hear of bitinstant?

I've never hear of bitinstant I've heard of Mt Gox though. If you take the bitcoins and it leads to your bank account that will say your account info like the routing number or some thing. There are anon ways to get the money out though.

There are no bank account numbers on block explorer. Re-read what you claimed. It is not substantiated by the fact that the 'master ledger' of bitcoin (the blockexplorer) is public.

Be specific. A general statement like that is always true and not very meaningful. All transactions 'could be' traced. Whether legal or illegal, in person or over the net. Re-read what you claimed and be more specific. It looks to me like you are just spreading fear with unsubstantiated or wild claims.
