Incubation

A friend of mine had a vivid dream in which he desired to try his hand at the PF Tek. While he said he didn't find the PF Tek to be the most efficient method, he felt it best to go through with it, ensuring the most rapid and most productive success as is possible before moving on to other mediums.

So that friend of mine came to me and asked: What are some good techniques for incubating colonizing as well as newly innoculated PF Jars? In the dream, he wasn't able to find access to a heating pad or any such fancy devices. He knows it's best to sustain a temperature of 80 degrees F. He is curious to hear your ideas for maintaining this temperature over long periods. Room temperature, he says, hovers around 68 degrees.

He told me that before he woke up from his dream, he placed the jars inside their original store box, and placed the box in a small cupboard with a 60 watt bulb inside. This seems impractical.

easiest method is to buy 2 rubbermaid bins of the same size that fit insice each other with a fish tank heater.

fill the bottom bin with water, insert heater, place 2nd bin on top. plug it in and voila! incubator!.

room temps will also work, but will take longer to colonize.

try the top of your fridge! or maybe tv. ( don't block the vent holes on your tv.. you will burn it out!.. careful!

I'm always very carefull with wrappig lamps in whatever material. Lamps are designed to operate with some air flow around them; they need this to cool down. Preventing from convection airflows around the lamp WILL result in a shorter lifetime of the lamp (but who cares..) and it MAY result in fire. So don't take a chance, and don't go wrapping up lamps. But what do I know, I only burned zillions of electrical components in my life...

put them back in a foil lined box and put on top of a space heater set on low. there is more air flow around the heater compared to a heating pad/blanket. Just don't go over 1 1/2 or 2 on the thermostat.
