In other news, Colorado and Washington will probably ignore the DEA.

It ain't Colorado or Washington that will get locked up.

That will be you and me:eek:

The states all talk big, like hard core rebels, but they all cave when threatened with no federal funding.

Doubt it. Some people will get arrested some won't, but I bet things will be far more open.

The pot clubs here that are open and advertise, regularly get shut down before the ink is dry on the high times directory.

But how many clubs are still open? This is legalization as well, not just medical marijuana.

My big question is: Is it really worth the DEA's time to keep running into this green wall when there are plenty of other drugs that are being used (that actually kill people). They even stated they're going after prescription drugs (mainly pain pills)..they can't be everywhere at once despite how intimidating they try and make themselves...What do you guys think?

You would be alarmed at the turn over of club owners willing  to go to jail. Most for 3 years just for a chance at millions of $ in a few months time.

The city permit office makes money hand over fist with the mile high stack of permit applications of the folks waiting in line to gamble with the feds. Even considered it myself.

Yeah I agree, and I think the phrase "overgrow the government" applies nicely to this sort of idea and what will hopefully happen.

they certainly aren't going to let it go just like that. this thing is going to take time. my guess is that they're going to make harsher punishments for unauthorized sellers.

as the article states, "We're not interested in bothering people who are sick and are using it in the recommendation of a doctor," Cole said. "We are concerned with people who are using it as a pretext to become large-scale drug dealers.".

i believe them. they just don't want people, other than themselves, getting filthy rich off this. i think the users are going to be in the clear 100%, but the sellers have another thing coming.

If that is the DEA's response, a rather predictable and unoriginal position for them to take, I am interested to see how far the state will comply with them as well as what the state's own police forces will do in regards to this change in law.

The president is going to have to have to take a stand on this you think? I mean they did both vote for him....maybe now that he doesn't have to worry about being re-elected he can approach the subject now...

Or alternatively the states/people will ignore federal policy and local officials will refuse to make MJ arrests.

Seattle has been pretty much ignoring MJ as much as they legally can already.  If kept on the DL, the cops really don't care.

There is a difference though between " dont't really care" and legally able to do nothing about it. I could still be prosecuted if one of those cops was having a bad day and decided to care about it.

This.

Plus, I'd love to see the DEA try and arrest the tens of thousands of people who will be following the law by smoking.

It simply is not feasible for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)—which has about 5,500 special agents nationwide, compared to about 765,000 sworn personnel employed by state and local law enforcement agencies—to bust a significant percentage of people who grow pot for themselves and their friends (as Colorado’s initiative allows), let alone people who possess it for recreational use.
