Having a hard time forgiving myself * 1
    #17175464 - 11/06/12 09:13 PM (11 years, 2 months ago)

One time in the summer I took an unknown amount of xanax at night (powder). I didn't black out or anything, and I didn't even feel noticably relaxed or anything. The next morning I got in the car to go to the gym, not even thinking that the xanax could still be effecting me. The drive there was a little rusty but nothing crazy. Once I got to the gym I tried doing a warmup squat with the barbell and when I was at the bottom of the squat I fell backwards, lol. I was like "fuck this" and left because I knew I could never squat like that. On the way back I was making a turn and was headed off the road if I hadn't stopped. I had to go into reverse to make the turn (that should have been no problem). I even heard some lady say "you shouldn't be driving" out of her window.

I'm lucky I didn't crash or anything but I feel bad because I could have hurt someone. I swear though I didn't know I was affected by the xanax until I had some questionable driving manuevers

I was expecting a much, much meatier story.

That is 60 seconds of my life I'll never get back, thanks.

I understand where you are coming from OP. There is nothing you can do to change the past. The best thing you can do for yourself is to learn from your mistake and be grateful that nobody did get hurt as a result of your behaviors. Try to make a rule for yourself that works, in which you will not drive while under the influence of drugs in the future.

Life is a giant learning experience. Youre doing fine man

Why should you forgive yourself? Not realizing you were intoxicated is alright, most people don't give themselves morning field sobriety tests. But once you realized something was off, the smart and safe thing to do would be pull over a d either get someone to drive you home, walk take a cab etc. There was no no reason  to drive and you should thank spaghetti monster you didn't hurt yourself or someone else.

Then why didn't you walk? That way you can only hurt yourself

Yeah, well my girl blacked out on Xanax a few weeks ago, went to work (on her day off) wearing two different shoes and had to have her boss drive her home...and she couldn't find our house
Went to pick up my truck from her work to find she had been in two hit and runs accidents that she can't remember.

I later found out it was a guard rail and a pole, but fuck man.

I mean, who knows how many babies and puppies she killed on the way to work...and you're upset over a poorly executed left turn?

Both of those situation s were handled incorrectly. One obviously was crazy, why would you ever do a drug where it's so easy to black out? Even hardcore alcoholics don't often lose entire days and do fucked up shit like that.

Xanax is a shitty drug if used incorrectly, that's why.

Xanax is good for when something traumtic happens in your life so you can sleep...or a night of stims/psychedelics....which are about the same anyhow.

That's about it

I was driving several hundred km. home from this Amon Amarth concert after a weekend of bzp and hard drinking, eating bzp like candy to kill the hang over when I had this great idea to put the peddle to the metal for this steep bridge, next thing the whole car was flying then rolling around the sharp corner after the bridge. Very luck there was no oncoming traffic. Car was wrecked, some lady stopped and picked up all my cds off the road. Cops came and they said "we can't smell alcohol on your breath so we won't breathalyze you". Gave me a $100 speeding ticket, made sure I got my car toed away then let me go.

This is nothing to have a hard time forgiving yourself about.

My dad once said, if he was me, he would never be able to forgive himself what had happened.

some days after my 18th birthday I made a pretty stupid decision to ride home with no working headlights. Turned myself into amputation of my left foot and the pain would have tortured me to suicide many times if I would not have been tied to my bed.

In the end I never felt guilt for what I have done to myself, because I have to live with it till the end of my days.
Of course it will haunt me until the day that I die, but I will be damned if I enforce this by crying about guilt.

"Forgiving yourself" is a plain stupid phrase and since normal people only have one personality they can not forgive theirselves unless they are schizophrenic. So talking about this nonsense just shows how much you are pitying yourself and this is kind of pathetic.

Could be a lot worse, I have a buddy of mine has a similar story. he was driving home on thanksgiving day on Xanax, nodded out, veered into oncoming traffic on the interstate, caused an accident that killed an elderly couple and their two grand kids. It could be a lot worse OP, hopefully you learned your lesson without anybody getting hurt. Forgive yourself and know you learned your lesson, and move on, no body got hurt, no harm no foul provided you truly learned something and dont do the same shit again.
