Very nice. I found those once in Kansas City. They're one of the tougher mushrooms to find because they blend into the ground so well. I didn't get to taste them, because the ones I found were starting to rot.

Did you do a spore print? Checking in Mushrooms of Northeastern North America, there are several similar species. Based on what I see, Craterellus cornucupoides will have a white spore print. If it comes out "ochraceous orange to ochraceous buff", then they're Craterellus fallax.

All of them are equally edible, apparently.

Happy mushrooming!

Very nice!

Yes, I found quite a few of these the past year, and they are probably one of my favorite tasting mushrooms.

They looked a little different from the ones you have pictured here.

Just as ToxicMan said, they are hard as hell to spot!!!

Great find!!

Nice find Mr. Mushrooms. those are soooo good.

i think when looking for these, the method i use in general would work. i try to teach myself to look for round shapes while disregaurding colors.

Nice find!
I saw them only once, or better I saw it, because it was only 1 and I left it alone.

The spoers for Craterellus fallax are listed as 11-18 x 7-11 microns, broadly elliptic, smooth, hyaline.

Happy mushrooming!

Is this commonly called a "Black Trumpet" mushroom? I found some of these last fall but did not know they were good to eat, they looked kind of leathery....hopefully they'll be back this year.

That's the ones! And there's not much they can be mistaken for.
