Specific Questions about Terranium/Incubator
    #1715718 - 07/14/03 09:23 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

Hi, AFOAF of mine boiled 10 jars of BRF/Verm substrate today. We set up the incubator (which we will also use for a terranium). The only thing different from what I was planning on doing was the fact that we are using 2 38 Litre Sterlite bins (We are using 2 bins and a submersible aquarium heater) . They are fairly small because he wants to go stealth. It looks like the bin the way it is could only fruit 6-8 cakes unless I could get a flat peice of plastic or metal to lay at the bottem because of the groove that follows around the edge of the container. Another problem I have is that there are I think 3 small holes at each end of the container under where the lid is placed (Where your fingers go for the handles). I was wondering if I could patch these with tape to keep humidity in or if it wont affect the humidity and maybe even benefit for CO2 exchange.
Any information about any of these subjects will be well appriciated

My friend uses holes for CO2 exchange, but he has a cool mist and uses perlite. If you are using perlite alone you should probably just tape them up and stick to fanning. I would put something on the bottom of the tub to allow for more cakes, since you don't need much height for cakes (unless you get those freaky 4th flush 10 inch monsters).

Im gunna be using inch of perlite at the bottem and fan when ever needed (1-3 times a day). KusSH are you sure I should not patch these holes up, I mean wouldnt humidity easily escape these holes? Keep in mine im using this for incubating and fruiting my cakes.

lol KuSsH... hey Shroom, if you have a hygrometer, then just monitor the humidity throughout the day, test run it before putting cakes in there.  If you notice the humidity dropping or not staying up, then patch the holes.  Happy KuSsH?

There is no space in the container for air stones I might pick up a hygrometer sometime if I get some spare cash. I dont have anything to take a pic with KusSH, but if I did I probably would have already posted a pic. KusSH do you have any first-hand experience of using a fruiting chamber with holes in it and not having a problem with retaining humidity?
