What went so wrong?

Hey guys. I had a pretty succesful first grow, see the link in my signature. This time - not so much.
Cakes were 100% colonised + 1 week. Some were longer, as I waited until the last of six was 100% before I counted down. Dunked for around 28hours, then rolled in vermiculite.
That was all three weeks or so ago. Here are the cakes now:

I had to throw one away because it went green. Bad spores maybe? You can see they tried to make mushrooms, but never went very far. I'm worried that the white stuff I'm seeing over the verm is more contamination.
I think I did everything right... I did last time anyway.
Thanks for your input.
PS: The bluing you see does not come off on a cotton bud, like the green cake did. That was gross.

I see bruising under the verm on some cakes....could be from dehydration.
The white fuzz just looks like mycellium to me, maybe just bad genetics.
28hrs is fine for a dunk, but I wouldn't go past 36....24hrs is all thats needed.
Feel each cake...if it feels light, then redunk, if it still feels like it has some water weight to it then i dont know.
What is your misting/fanning schedule like? Do u have the proper lighting?
Did u build the SGFC to spec wit 1/4" holes every 2" on all 6 sides with 4-5" of perlite?

Here's the FC:

I've been misting and fanning at a minimum of 3-4 times a day. Often more.
I have one of those 6500k lightbulbs, which seemed to be fine on my first grow. RH is usually around 90-94% whenever I've checked, and the temperature has been 21-24c.
If I am to re-dunk, should I do them individually in case of cross contamination? Or is that not an issue since they've been neighbours for so long anyway?

Alright, I lifted the cakes with a view to giving them a short dunk to hopefully revitalise them. Another two down

Underneath one of them was going green, came off with a cotton bud. Tossed. I dug around a little on the fluffy white of the other one, underneath seemed to be the start of trich and it came off on the bud. Tossed.
I am soaking the remaining three. I might get lucky, but am not holding out hope. I don't get it.
I have another six jars nearly colonised, but two of those have given me cause for concern - a lot of the dry layer has sunk into the wet layer making it a very thin dry layer indeed. On the two I'm worried about there is myc/mould coming out of the top. Disheartening to say the least.
First grow was such a wild success, and I thought I was being EVEN MORE careful with the batch I just tried to fruit.

Yeah that's not good. I see 2, maybe 3 different molds there. Is it possible you still had some uncolonized potions when you birthed your cakes?

I don't think so, as I waited a week or more until the last one was 100%
The possibly good news is that I took the three remaining cakes out of a soak, and there is no visual evidence of contamination as there was on the others. They're back in the FC. We will see.

The Q-Tip test, as it is often called, is a very poor technique to determine if a grow is contaminated. Bruising, metabolites, and rust along with moulds can wipe off onto a Q-Tip, which renders this test useless and misleading.
The surefire way to determine if a grow is contaminated, is by learning to visually spot the contamination. If it looks grainy, sandy or powdery and actually on top of the mycelium, rather than a part of it, then it is a mould. Bruising can often times appear blue, but if you take into account the visual cues I spoke of, one can easily identify contamination.

Keep an eye on those white patches. It could be mycelium but it looks a lot like trich before it sporulates and turns green, or were those were the one's you tossed?

I think it must have been the spores.
On that batch, I had six cakes. None of them fruited whatsoever, over a period of weeks. I even redunked after a while. Nothing but mould ever came of them.
The same day that I birthed those cakes, I made up another batch. I did three "Hawaiian" that gave me a successful first grow, and three "B+" that gave me mould. They were all inoculated at the same time, with the same blend of substrate, in the same conditions etc.
Here's the Hawaiian:

Here's the B+:

As you can see, a slight difference. This leads me to believe that my "B+" syringe was bunk, and that I was unlucky that it was my second try. I honestly thought for some time that I was doing something wrong.
Here's to the third try. Should I just throw away the B+ ones? I doubt they'll do anything if the last lot was anything to go by.

i'm no pro but i'd say just be patient my first b+ took almost 4 weeks to pin once in the fc and visually yours seems fine. are those see through? i also see mycelium on the base of your other ones maybe try fanning a little more

The B+ I am sure are bunk. I had the cakes this thread was about in the chamber for about a month. Nothing happened.
What made me sure about this conclusion is the fact that I did 3 tubs of two varieties, using the same mix, and getting wildly different results. The Hawaiians made pins, the B+ made mould.
I'm not saying B+ are bad, I'm just saying the syringe I got was probably bunk from the start. I will not be buying from that supplier again.
