Scientists: Burgers as Addictive as Heroin

Great news for trial lawyers eager to shake down restaurants for "making" people obese: Scientists now claim that a burger and fries are as addictive as hard drugs.

"Scientists at the University of Wisconsin say high doses of fat and sugar in fast and processed foods act the same way as nicotine, heroin and other substances in becoming habit-forming," the New York Post reported today.

Lead researcher Matthew Will said, "A high-fat diet alters brain biochemistry with effects similar to those in powerful opiates such as morphine."

When lab rats had their high-fat diet revoked, they showed withdrawal symptoms like those of a hophead denied a fix, the docs found. A steady diet of slop changes the brain so much that it's nearly impossible for a junk-food junkie to start eating a healthful diet, they said.

The Post did not mention whether the scientists differentiated between good (eg., olive oil) and bad (eg., hydrogenated shortening) fats or good and bad carbohydrates.

Personally, I think this is bullshit. I thought most people just grew out of their McDonalds phase when they realise how horrible it is- I certainly didn't get the shakes (pun intended) when I stopped eating there..

So do we outlaw food or legalize drugs?

This is news? I thought this was common knowledge...
A few more interesting pieces of news for you then

Pot Study
Is water the most addictive drug ever?

I still find it surprising that they did this study and reported their findings without associating it with hydrogenated or otherwise heathy fats and oils. Isn't that the whole point? To point the finger at McShit and say that they've known it all along?

I guess I don't compare a story from a satire site, to a news story.

And without water, we die, so there's no comparison there either.

And the reason I posted the article is because I felt that comparing burgers to heroin was just a bit over the top.

I am sooooo adicted to cheese burgers it's not even funny, when I go out now I try to avoid going past any burger joints, too tempting I guess.  Last night I ate at wendys.  After my meal I started craving more food even though I knew I was "Fed" already.  Luckly I am moving to the country on to an organic farm on Saturday.  So no more devil food for me.  I will be fifty miles from any fast food resturant and hopefully break my addiction.  What kind of scum am I... I know better but...
