I guess a self title really wasn't needed for this post, but I wasn't thinking quiet up to par when I wrote it. I meant to name it something like...........Sterlization.....or....Should I sterlize Jiffy before application.......or.......well I'm sure you get the idea, something to the nature of the context previously mentioned.

I choose to sterilize my casing materials. Cubies seem to do just fine without the beneficial bacteria that is in peat moss. Some species need them. Cubies don't seem to in my experience. If you have a pressure cooker, just fill some jars with Jiffy mix and do the normal 1hr @15psi, when cool, add spring water and top cakes. If you are using Solo cups , just place 1/2 cake per cup (crumbled) top with jiffy mix and place in terrarium. Mist peat daily untill you see mycelium and then just mist walls of terrarium. They will fend for themselves. Did that answer your question? Hope so.

Yeah that pretty much cleared everything up. But on the sterlization part. I don't add any water before sterlizing? How do I know when I have enough water in my jar, I don't wanna speeze out excess do I, that'll just make it unsterile again.

No, pressure cook your casing materials DRY and mix what you need when you need it. I just dump what I need into a clean mixing bowl, add spring water and mix with a fork, to test moisture level, I "scoop" up a clump and press against the side, if only a couple of drops escape, I consider it good.

I use syn. filter discs on my jars so they store sterile for a long time.

You will notice a little moisture right after p.cooking but that is just the steam that got in there (a good thing, needed to properly sterilize), they will dry if the lid is kept a little loose with aluminum foil on top. (If you use filter discs, tighten band or if you use plastic lids, drill 1/2" hole in top and tighten, there is enough air exchange that they are bone dry in a day or so.)
