question about flouros and white fuzz

ive got two cakes in a 10 gal? fish tank in my closet, theyve been in there now for about two days, how much light do i need to encourage pinning? do i really have to fan? there is a growing white fuzz on the cakes (not cob web mold) i read somewhere that white fuzz means i need to fan more, is that true? i have a 16 inch lights of america flouro right next to the tank and its getting on average 2-4 hours of light a day, is it bad to have the light right next to the tank?

If you can see the cakes then there is enough light. It doesn't take much.

Either fanning or some other method of providing air exchange.

White fuzz just means that your cakes are healthy. It's quite normal.

Only if the light is putting off enough heat to screw up the chamber environment.
