Patch? Or remove casing from case?
    #1713857 - 07/14/03 10:23 AM (20 years, 9 months ago)

AFOAF has a casing he just harvested. Unfortunatly the case is one of those foil baking pans and they have a tendency to bend and change shape. Now there is a significant amount of space between the side of the case and the casing itself.

The question he has is should he fill in this space with some casing mix or remove the whole casing from the case?

What do others do in a situation like this?

Is he just begging for contams when if he does this?

you can fill the cracks with more casing material to help re-humidify it..

or simply peal the sides open and you'll get pins on the sides..

either or..

you could flip it out onto a tray, creating a larger surface area
for pins, or as poops says just peel the sides down, or rehydrate it, as oftern its the drying out of the casing that produces the gap around the edge.

I personaly wouldnt refill the the area around if you have already had a flush, i would flip the mofo :-)

but you have a few choices so good luck with the way you choose to go :-)

Thanks. That helps him out a lot.

He says he is going flip them, but has one more question. Could he dunk it like a cake?

Yep, i do that with dryed casing.
You could just pour spring water into the ali tray and allow it to soak some up for 2 or so hours, that way there less chance of the casing breaking up. Then just drain off the excess water when its had a good soak.
