What to do....

I have one lost and lonly half pint brf jar completly colonized except for a spot on the top of it a little smaller than a quarter. I've been paying attention to it and it hasnt got any smaller in the last week. So would it be good for birthing? Or should I crumble it up, pop it in the blender with some fruit and chug that bitch like a milkshake? Would it be good for tripping off of tonight or should I just cut out the bad parts and case it?

definitely don't chug that bitch like a milkshake. vermiculite is not good for you.
it might be stalled cause it's either too dry or there's no O2. try untaping the holes and putting it upside down. if that doesn't work, it's hopelessly stalled and you should just pitch it.

Don't ever toss a cake. At the very least use it to spawn a patch in your yard.
One cake isn't going to do much for you if you consume it. Also, do you really want the glittershits from the verm?
You could birth it and scrape off the uncolonized portions of substrate. That's still risky as the center of the cake might not be colonized. Contams could quickly invade the places where there is no mycelium.

I know this goose who onced was forced to birth a cake 90% colonized due to invitro pinning. He took cake of using a small and very clean terrarium (a 2L plastic coke bottle) and was able to get 2 small flushes from it before contams hit.
You can birth this one but skip the dunking step unless you can use some sterile water.
And no, don't even think of eating it. I still wonder why so many people have this idea...

yes you can birth a cake that is mostly colonized. What i would do is take the cake where the spot is not colonized and put it at the bottom then give it 12 hours of light and drop the temp and rasie the humidity to start the pinning once you see pins foruming cut the time of light you give it to 1 hour a day. What the ligh dose is tell the mycelium that it's time to fruit that why you keep it in the dark till it is 100% colonized then once you give it light pinns will start to forum but take into account that when a cake is 100% colonized it can fight off contams and when it isn't 100% colonized you can get contams so if you do this try to be as clean as you can to cut down the chances of getting contams. good luck

My friend had one like that and he made a ghetto casing with it using a tupperware bowl and some verm. It will probably contam, but he figured what the hell.

yeah i had that happen to 3 cakes at the same time was what i did was broke them up into a med size tupperware container and started to fruit them and i did get some contams but i just took a spoon that was cleaned in lysol then use it to take out the contams it was a pain in the but but i got 2 flushes out of it before the contams took it over so i was very very happy with that i got 3 dried oz's from 2 flushes when most people would have trashed the cakes
