Enough sitting around at home, I'm going fishing...
    #17128991 - 10/30/12 06:08 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

...tomorrow morning. I've been out of work for a month now and trying to change career which isn't going as smoothly as I was hoping. All I've been doing is sitting at home, eating and on the computer looking for jobs. I've just finished re-building my new boat but I still need to do a few trailer modifications and registration paperwork which I just can't afford at the moment.

The weather has really warmed up over the past week, so the fish should be biting fairly hard at the moment. Going to head down to the local wharf with about a pound of prawns (shrimp for you yanks, nobody here in Australia calls them shrimp!!). Might even flick a lure as well if I feel like it!!

If I get anything, I will upload pics. Hope I get some fish, it's been a few months since I was last out there!!

Put another prawn on the barbie too!  Just kidding.  Im sure you don't use that phrase in Australia either  I always feel better after a day of fishing...doesn't even matter if I catch anything too.

I love wharf(dock) fishing.  I don't have a boat and have caught some great sturgeon from the bank and some of our docks up here in the Pacific Northwest.  Im just getting used to a bait casting reel with 8oz of weight and a 14' pole...gotta get out in the channel for them big White Sturgeon.

Have fun...good luck(fishing AND career change)...post some pics if you can.

Thanks!! My bread and butter is big gamefishing, although I am now living in a location which won't let me do any unfortunately. I've fished on boats up to 50 feet in length, but I enjoy fishing from a wharf as well. Just need to get my boat done!!

I would love to catch a big White Sturgeon, just the idea that such a big fish lives in pristine rivers is mind-boggling to me. Although we do get Bull Shark populations up our rivers.

If I get any, I will post pics!!

Was a little quiet today, here is a pic from my first spot which I fished for a couple hours for zero. Seaweed was starting to become a really big problem

Then went to another spot, grabbed out my lightweight flick-stick to try a bit of lure fishing and got these two nice Flathead. They are a flat fish and are in the same family as flounder but they fight much harder.

Gunna do it again tomorrow, try another new spot where I heard a few nice Whiting and Snapper have been caught. Hope I get lucky!!

Sweet!  Nice fish.  Good eating?  That fat one surely must have been a nice fight on that light rod/reel combo.  I do a lot of trout fishing on super ultra light poles and spin casting reel.  A 12" wild cutthroat trout is a great match for 4lb. test line...fish on!

Yeah not bad at all, I like to fillet them and do them in a beer batter. They are a pretty iconic Australian sportsfish.

I pretty much use 4lb braid for all my estuary fishing, I got a Flathead around 17lb on 4lb braid a couple years ago. Light tackle is great!!

Well today's fishing session didn't quite go as planned, as I was heading  down to my spot I slipped over and grazed my left ass cheek very badly. I fished, but the breeze caused my shorts to repeatedly rub against the graze and cause me some grief. I think I might just wait until I get my boat finished before I go fishing again...

Ouch, that's too bad. Don't let that stop you from fishing though.

Oh don't worry, it isn't gunna stop me. I'm just gunna stay away from land-based fishing and get my boat finished so I can go to different spots and not risk slipping over and skinning my ass again hahaha
