Perhaps way off base here, but I've always wondered what these were.  Came across a picture and a description in a book that jogged my memory of these things.

Taken a couple years ago so I don't have much more detail than what's in the pictures.  Habitat was a sloppy grass area covered in lots of deciduous tree debris.  Roughly mid-October time frame.  Western Washington.



Edit:  size was fairly significant.  Cap diameter at this stage was 1-2"

That's an interesting find! P. aurea should be umbonate as opposed to umbilicate, and I don't believe it's hygrophanous. Wish you had gotten a gill shot!
