What is sacred?
    #1711494 - 07/13/03 01:19 PM (20 years, 8 months ago)

I was just thinking about this while lying in bed at 3 in the afternoon.. how do we decide what is sacred and what is not?

For some people, sex is a sacred act, but then after reading a few threads here, it seems most of you do not agree with that. That sex is just feelings. But then, it seems most of you agree that life is sacred. But what makes life so sacred? And if the life force of a being is so sacred, what makes the life of a cow more sacred then that of a tree? Is it just emotions? Is there anything sacred about life beyond the fear of death? If so, what makes this any different than any other kind of fear? Anything I can think of that people hold as sacred to themselves just boils down to how it makes them feel. Then how come some feelings are held in higher regard than others? Why is the love between someone you have been sleeping with for several months more valuable than the love you have for your friends you've known for 6 years? Why does the success of ones children matter more to someone than the well-being of countless others?

Why do we hold anything sacred?

one is all, all are one...when you realize this, what reason for holiness or wisdom? Look, this ball in my pocket; can you see how priceless it is?

Definitions and meaning aren't necessarily the same thing.
