It is completely playable offline and in fact that is how I mostly played it. There are tons of way to get around it. You either need to go into the hiding spot and shoot an arrow at him and as soon as he flies down.... RUN!
OR you can take the route below, kill 3 rats and go up the ladder and skip the dragon completely, but you miss a bonfire and the gate is closed.
Just watch a youtube vid if you can't figure it out. The game is seriously great and I hear a lot of complaints about how unfair the game is.... it isn't, while its one of most challenging games it is also completely fair that if you die, it is your own fault, you made the mistake.

Never played Demon Souls so I can't say how it is compared to Dark Souls, but I found it pretty fun to replay it. PVP is also another fun thing to do as long as your challenger isn't an asshole lol

I've heard Guild Wars 2 kind of sucks from my work mates Haven't tried it myself. I guess some people like it, it looks lame to me.
You might check out Torchlight 2.
Why are all these games out, all number 2, and 3?

Empire: Total War...or any of the Total War games. I started playing them not too long ago after twighead and mad_larkin recommended them to me and they're absolutely amazing. Usually RTS's feel somewhat less involved for me then I think they should but the Total War series has commanded my full attention for the last couple of weeks.

I want something old school. Square/Enix style. Secret of mana style meets zelda meet FF7...
Where gameplay/strategy/story > graphics, but if it has great graphics too then cool
WHEN THE FUCK WILL THEY DO IT
Fuck I'm just gonna start making my own games
Err...not exactly new in any sense of the word but have you ever played Suikoden or any of its sequels? They were all released sometime between....'97 and 2006 I believe. All of them were well above average when it comes to RPG's imo. Well...except for S4 anyway. 3 and 5 were excellent and the first 2 are easily within the top 5 rpgs I've ever played.
