I dropped out of school at grade 4. I was given the opportunity to travel the world, and study whatever I want. Eventually I got into mycology, and that's why I ended up here. Anyway, I think If you determine intelligence by education, consider that I could go complete my GED tomorrow if I needed to. But I never needed it. I decided that I wanted to grow edible mushrooms. I invested the 'college' money into supplies and equipment, and now I'm happy doing what I love. I'm certainly not knocking education, I'm just suggesting that it's not the determining factor in 'intelligence'.

Street smarts or book smart, can intelligence be measured between the two or does it have to be one or the other?
Of course not, but it opens doors for some people with connections.

In my experience people with book smarts have street smarts and vice versa. Also IME people who claim to have street smarts but not book smarts usually just dont have much of any smarts.

I am certain this is true, at least to a degree. It is inarguable that we are force-fed propaganda under the guise of learning. This I have seen with my own eyes.
Maybe this is why the wealthy elites choose to send their kids to private schools -- so they can get a REAL education (because they know the public one is a fucking sham)
i partially agree. i for one feel that i'm getting a stellar level of education where i'm attending. but i also think that something is being lost for the younger generations (and myself since i'm attending school alongside them) in that the only subjects in school that seem to be of any importance are ones that are conducive to maximizing profits in the corporate sector. and to me, while there's nothing wrong with people and companies making money, our over-specialization in higher level institutions seems to be diminishing our capacity to think, speak and communicate. some people might not think liberal arts are important, mostly because of what i perceive as a corporate bias against liberal arts because they benefit the individual rather than directly effect profit margins. but it takes more than engineers and scientists to make a society, and let's face it, not everyone is cut out for those line of work. just like everyone isn't cut out to be an artist or writer. we're people, not machines. the way things are now universities largely seem to be cranking out breathing, shitting calculators who will put on the monkey suit and play the game. this is why my student job consists of selling 50k+ luxury vehicles to people who can't reason their way through an excruciatingly simple conversation.

I have learned more in my past 4 years of being out of high school than I ever actually learned in high school.
school has nothing to do with intelligence. It's your will power to learn thats the key. You have to want to learn.
i didnt in high school lol

understanding how to know people is difficult though. School systems need to be changed in some way I'm not going to start on that one though.
My rule of casual: if you ever have worked with someone or are in daily contact for a while you are acquaintances for 13 months. The person is going to be completely different after that amount of being away from you. You can casual talk and then mention the months you knew them but act like you just met. Don't talk about work with anyone that is at work or talking.

I determine whether or not to engage with people casually based on a dual metric of i.) how hot they are and ii.) how useful they are.
I've been a bit too promiscuous with my casualness though-- the last couple months has had me meeting hella people whose names I can't place. I felt really bad the other day when somebody I studied with closely a couple years ago came up to me all familiar like she knew me and I was like "uhhh where do I know you from again?" She's on my Facebook and everything. I feel fucking terrible about that.
EDIT: sorry for off-topic post.

Not in my experience. I didn't go to high school, but in college it was not like that. Even history classes which are very much about regurgitation required you to author original thoughts and ideas about the themes and times. Math and science classes were very much about understanding concepts rather than memorizing facts.
Of course the more basic and low level classes go easy on difficult concepts and try to build up the basic concepts in a way that can be circumvented by memorization and regurgitation. Students who 'succeed' that way dont succeed for long.
